Jump from 4P to 9P DVD in a 2007 unit? Worth it?

I searched for info on a nav update for my 2007 and even on Google the only options for upgrading seem to be to purchase a 9P disk from Navteq for $200 or risk trying somehow to download it from some torrent site (no thanks). Has anybody with a 2007 or 2008 purchased one of the newer nav disks from ebay or Navteq? I wonder if it is worth the money to go from a 4P to the recommended 9P by Navteq.

Do you have to buy one, or can you just borrow one for a few minutes if you run into someone with a newer disk in their truck? Dealers cant help with updating? And why not use a computer to do it, I thought that was possible?

I have version 6P in my truck and version 8P in my Expy and I can tell you there are alot more POI's ( points of interest ) in the version 8P. That being said, roadway wise there isn't a whole lot different ( some but not alot ) I think jumping from 4P to 8P you will see quite a difference though.

As for "borrowing" an update..... The stock 07-08 factory NAV units are DVD based so the actual DVD has to be in the unit to operate. Keep in mind there is a seperate slot for just the DVD and another for the 6 CD's. I've heard of some "burning" copies off the computer and then having issues so try it your own risk.

If you have a dvd burner there are program on the net that will let you copy the factory nav. disk, the one thing you have to do is use a dual layer blank dvd. the last I check they were about $4.00 a piece

So what does the upgrade actually do other than obviously being more up to date if there have been new constructuon and roads added? Does it make the graphics any different or will you see the same thing as you did before with just up to date info?

I did find quite a few torrent sites that offer it. However, you have to sign up to play. First, I don't trust many of those sites and secondly, I don't want to sign up with any file share sites. I suppose if one is already familiar with torrent, has an account, and is comfortable going that route it would be much easier and cheaper. I have seen comments on other sites that the newer versions have more info, the newer roads, and phone numbers are update. My 4p is now 4 years old.

Yup. New roads added. More POI's. Same graphics.
