Even the "Alarm Guy" gets hit by theft

Halloween night not only had the little candy monsters out. Apparently the thieves where on the prowl as well. I woke up this morning to find that my screen was completely ripped off the front of my Kenwood Excelon Navigation system. I guess I didn't arm the alarm and they were just waiting for the right night to hit me. The unit is completely worthless now. It really hurts because I use this to get to customers houses and the bluetooth comes in really handy since I'm on the phone all day with customers. Plus I used the screen for my backup camera as well. Anyone driving an Excursion knows this is a very handy tool. $1200 down the drain.

That sucks! I hate thieves! Hopefully you have insurance with a low comprehensive deductible.

I didn't even bother with the insurance or even the cops. Total waist of time and would just be a mark on my insurance. Pay all that money for what....to just make it go higher. I'm pretty sure who did it but no proof. It's the little ****s across the street from me that moved into a duplex. They hit my wife's truck a few weeks ago and took her camera case, some change, CDs and her Bible. A neighbor down the street found the bible tossed into her yard. I'm assuming they run over to our house every night to see if my light is flashing on the dash. I ordered some surveillance cameras from my distributor today and I'm going to set them up and catch the bitches. Two of them are wireless and run off 12 volts. I'm going to mount them up to my sun visors and power them up. They'll record in the house on the DVR. I'll leave the truck unlocked with some used product in it and nail their asses. I printed off a high resolution photo of a new Kenwood nav and glued it to some cardboard. It looks so real sitting in the hole of the dash.

I thought about wiring up one of my wireless door chimes from the house to my door switches so that I can be alerted when they open my door.

Then you have to disconnect the parking light flash and you'll hear it clicking under the dash as well.

I would assume by the fact that you still have 3/4s of the Kenwood still in the dash and they stole a bible (kinda ironic...) that the little ****s are too stupid to understand what the clicking is from....

But sorry to hear that, I know the feeling. Its worse when you are an alarm guru.

I turned on the passive arming to the alarm so I don't have this problem again. Pretty sure I just didn't arm it up that night. With the Compustar systems you can turn auto arming on/off with the transmitter which is nice. Most systems you have to go into programing to enable and disable it. I set it up for auto locking as well. Kind of a pain in the *** when you come up to the truck and find it's armed and locked you out but I have it tied to the keypad to disarm so not too bad.

Travis I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you catch them. A guy like you don't deserve this drama

Honestly, not to make this thread detour so much. But ever since I left installing and no longer have my F150 (its on a long term lease to a family member) its been much harder to enjoy the boards both here and at DIYMA. Ive been poking my head in and out at random just to see the progression of the Audio forum. Send me an email and let me know how the sister to my truck is doing.

Yea, the passive arming in your case would work better. The only problem is I dont have a CA or CS to integrate with the door keypad. Or am I missing something and can do it with a DEI without hiding a remote?

Two autotechs did it using two relays and a remote with the lock/unlock wires. Yet to see a solution for DEI with no hiding a remote.

Grab a smartstart system. Who doesn't have their phone on them 24/7.

Yo Travis - Keep this thread update on any tricky things you might add or wire to your vehciles. I've been thinking of adding some small sirens to my install and a battery backup.
