Avic-x710bt

I think i found what i want and for the right price. The guy i go to for all my audio needs is hookin me up with a avic-x710bt installed with the the cable for the ipod and microphone, steering wheel control adapter ... the works all for $750. and hes throwin in a 3 year warranty as well. only question is last year when i was shopping he was telling me how good the f series was and now hes tellin me about all the problems they had so im kinda questioning about this one as well. anyone have one and have any input about it?

Supposedly the X-series is a big improvement over the F-series. I've had two AVIC-F700BT's; one in my F150 and one in my wife's Mustang. They had the usual problems but nothing really serious. I put an AVIC-X910BT in my truck and I can tell it is somewhat improved over the F-series. However it does still have the slow boot-up time that the F-series was known for. That's not really a big deal to me but it is to some. I would say that $750 with the iPod cable and steering wheel controls is a good deal from an authorized dealer. Are you getting the XM tuner as well? The XM interface on the Pioneer nav units is excellent.

I just installed the avic x910bt and love it.The 910 and 710 are pretty much the same.
I installed the steering wheel controls..a sirius tuner..by passed the screen lock out..and added a splitter for the i-pod so I can attach multiple RCA inputs. The GPS aspect of it is great.I had a Magellen mastro and this is nicer and can be updated WITHOUT discs due to the memory card. The steering wheel controls are a bit slugish compared to factory but thats not the radio's fault. The screen is very bright and sharp...the radio has outputs for a rear amp.The site says the dvd wont play avi's..but the sd card and usb will..but I watched a avi I put on disc and it worked fine?
Like most units theres a wait while the nav loads..but what ever you were listening to when you shut the unit off will start playing almost instantly while the nav loads.
Budget also has a lot to do with it also..I bought my unit for 400.00..it was 1 month old.and the guy bought a new car with built in nav.this was in the box with all the original paers and cables.I bought the sirius, pac controls, install kit and ipod cables from sonic for a total of 700 bucks for everything and it took me..dont laugh..4-5 hrs to install..but I also ran my cable thru my consol and did some other stuff.plus it was raining out side at the time.the install actually was easy but I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my truck.I have pics in this forum that you might want to see if your installing a sirius tuner or a place to mount the gps antenna.
Bottom line..I think you'll like it.But there will always be guys with better units..and worse, depending on how much or little you spend. But for the money you didn't go wrong.
In my humble opinion..

Screen response is almost instant on the new X-series and it still does not come with a remote.

Good review. As you said they are basically the same with the only differences being that the X910BT has a glossy finish, plays DVD discs, and has a VSS wire connection for the GPS.

Itinerary w/ AVIC-X710BT

Just acquired the unit ...

Works fine but issue when I set-up itineray having to exit on highways.

The issue is with the "Distance to the guidance point" window. When I get to about 1000 ft (300 m) from the exit, the distance shown in the window is 0 ft.

The main window shows actually that there is 1000 ft to go and the icon is well positionned on the map.

Any issues at your end with that?
