Question Headrest Monitors

Hey guys I looking to add a few lcds to my truck for the kids and am looking for advice as to what to look for? I've noticed the are several options and makes to chose from. Has anyone have any favorites or dislikes? Any answers would greatly help. I'm adding them to a Kenwood DNX710ex.

I installed a dvd player on the roof of our truck to the rail system. I didn't want to cut anything into my headrests. I had to do a little work to make it fit as I couldn't order one from ford, discontinued was the reason. The one I got came out of a 2005 freestar, my son can listen to it through the wireless headsets when he gets older, or through the line input on the top of the dash or I have a set of remote speakers he can use until he gets old enough to keep the head set on. We got back from my brothers a week ago and the dvd player was worth every penny and more.

Go with Vizualogic. They color match the leather in truck perfectly and the DVD and screens are already installed. Very easy to do. Built in FM trans or hard wire to head unit. I have dual DVD's in the headrests and a DNX8120. The dual zone of the 8120 is great my son can listen to is movie on the back speakers and we can listen to what ever on the front speakers. They also come with wireless headphones.

I went with the Vizualogic A-1290 dual DVD system in my Expy. I got them on ebay from "trailduty". They are a 9" system with independent DVD players in each screen. They also have an Ipod hookup on the front of each screen, a game port on the front of each screen, and another a/v hookup on the main control box. The system is totally flexible in that either screen can watch any of the 5 inputs (driver dvd, pass dvd, game port, ipod, or aux). As an example, if the passenger is watching a DVD, the driver side can select "passenger dvd" and watch the same dvd. Then, if the passenger decides to switch to IPOD, the driver side can continue to watch the passenger DVD.

They also have a video output for each monitor so if you have a front screen you can see what the kids are seeing. We use this feature all the time when the kids are having problems getting a dvd to play. Rather than contort around to the back seats to see what's happening, we can switch the front screen to view the back screen in question and use the remote to fix the issue. Slick as snot.

It's a really great system and took me about 1/2 hour to install. The screens are already mounted in color-matched headrests and all you do is remove your old headrests, install the new ones and connect power, ground, acc. Couldn't be easier.

It's a bit pricey at $1500 but is still cheaper than the OEM product and more versatile, plus it's 9" not 7" like the OEM version.

We've been using ours non-stop for 8 months now and couldn't be happier.

My only complaint is that it sometimes has issues reading burned Dual Layer DVD's. I make copies of all my kid's movies so that they don't break the originals and only use the highest quality media. Unfortunately the Vizualogic system doesn't always read the discs properly. It varies by manufacturer. I have never had a problem with single layer DVD's.

Thanks for the replies. I'm kinda stuck with going with the headrest due to the sun roof. I will look into the Vizualogic. I was looking at Pyle.

If you do decide to go with the headrest take a look at the Alpine's. I can only speak for these b/c I've seen them in person and they look dam good.

I got the two 9" screens in the head rest, they came already in a set of head rest to match leather. So i still have my original ones so when and if a get another truck way down the road i can take them out and put factory head rests back. I looked at the screens with built in dvd player with haveing a 2 yr old and 5 i didnt want to have to turn around every time to change the dvd hit play or anything like that when i m driving. In the 3rd pic i have a dvd play below my flip out scren that controld the screens. So its much easier to work when driving or siting. Also since i have the flip out screen i ahve it set to were I hit av2 and i can see same things as back screens. Plus haveing the seperate dvd play it was hundres of dollars cheaper then haveing it built into screesn ones.
