I know this isn't an F150, but my mom is having a problem with her Navigator. She has an '03 w/ factory navigation (the kind with the discs). Over the past few months, the screen pops up with an error every so often that either says "disc dirty or damaged" or "disc focus error" or something to that effect.

she finally got a chance to drop it off at the dealer this morning. they called back and said the dash unit was fine, that the problem was a bad disc. we would have to call navteq for a replacement disc. she asked if they had tried the other discs and they said that they had, but they came up on the screen as outdated. this part makes no sense to me that just because the one disc is no good, the rest would magically become no good either.

she says she mentioned to the service advisor she was looking to trade in the truck and wanted the sales department to take a look at it and tell her what they would give her on a trade-in. this kinda makes me believe that they aren't telling her the whole truth with the disc read errors.

i'm gonna go with her in the morning to pick it up and try a couple different discs (some of the other navigation discs...there are 9 i think...and a couple music cd's). if they all work then i guess i will accept their diagnosis of a bad disc, but if they don't work and the same error message shows then i'm gonna march back into the service department and demand a replacement radio from visteon.

anyone have any experience with this sort of error in these trucks? any input? thanks.
