99 F -150 AVIC-F90BT Install Advice
Hi Guys,
I Just Purchased a New Pioneer AVIC-F90BT nav unit for my Ford Truck. i have been spending some time on AVIC411.com and i know i wont have any problem with any of the softwear/mods/hacks on the unit. What i will have some problem whit is the physical install of the unit. i was hoping someone here could give me some pointers. now i know i need a double din install kit, the met 99-5807 looks like it might work with some modification and so does the met 95-5812 also looks like it could work but neither of the kits are made for my truck. i spoke to someone at my local stereo shop and they told me that could custom make me a part, but the threw the word spray paint around and im not intrested in that. im also going to need a wiring kit i think... i saw a photo of a 700bt installed in a 97 f150 so i know that its possible and i have nothing but time to work on this come next week after midterms. at this point any help would be great. once i get the unit next week im going to get a better feel for what needs to be done, but i was trying to get some stuff ordered before it got here so i can speed the install up. worst case im going to take it down to the stereo shop and see what they say about a custom double din kit. anyway i have a double din adapter kit already installed in the truck with an older alpine cd/mps deck that i might be able to modify. last im going to try and post pictures of my progress and before and afters once i get going. thanks alot for any help.

I installed a 700BT in mine no problem. You're going to have to dremel the top to squeeze the unit in, and depending on your truck, you may have to cut out the OEM stereo mounting bracket in the back (big plastic piece). I forget what the specific model numbers are, but those ones you listed for the brackets sound about right, you're just going to have to cut the middle piece. Here's a step by step guide:

Thanks a lot _cashel, that will be more than enough information for me to get this kit done right. i was still wondering did you need to order a wiring harness, i have noticed a few post asking about that. i would imagine that the stock harness in my truck should plug in right in the back like a normal deck install but i just want to be sure. Thanks again you guys rock... this form is great
after reading a little more i answered my own questions, you got the Scosche FD16B harness, and the Scosche trim kit FD1330B. if im wrong please let me know. if not thanks again for you advice.
You're going to need a harness yes. I had one I used with my older headunit (panasonic cq-8300). I just cut off the wires from the old head unit and crimped the wires from the 700BT onto the harness. I'm not sure what the model number is for the harness because the place I bought my old headunit from years ago threw it in as a bonus. I'm pretty sure I used the Scosche trim kit though, or something that was mentioned in that thread I linked you.
Let me know if you need any more help.
edit: so yes, you'll need both of those items
