New Pioneer F700 owner. Some questions

Got a brand new Pioneer F700 unit last week for $398 shipped. Wasnt really ready for it but couldnt pass up on that deal. Anyhoo, I'm a "newby" with alot of this and dont really know/understand what all i need to get all the benefits.

What do i need for XM/Sirius(minus subscription)? For HD radio? I believe thats all the features that need extra products to work.

Also, how about installing. Is Best Buy trust worthy to have them install it?

:o

Edit - Links to what i need would be great.

Yeah, set up an appointment to get it installed on thursday. Went into best buy earlier and talked to the guy. Showed me what i would need etc.. Cost alot more then i was expecting. So i'm just going to wait on satellite radio and HD radio. Just use the basic unit for now.

Sundevil, you saying i need BOTH of those components for Sirius? Or one or the other?

Gotta have both. One is a universal tuner and the other is a Pioneer to Universal translator.

Ummm the USB on the newer AVIC's is ment for Ipod control or hooking in a jump drive (which the unit reads as one mammoth CD). We usually run the cables to the glove box so its out of sight/out of mind. You need this cable for full audio/video control on the ipod...

what store are you getting it put in at?

Sorry, last post was a quick reply. Was in a hurry.

Yeah, I know what the USB is mainly for but it can also be used for other things. Like updates and personalized splash screens and such. I saw on here, in the gallery, someone had the USB end put in the dash next to the cigarette lighter. Cant for the life of me find who it was. Thats something i'd like to do. The glove box should be fine for now. Dont even have an ipod yet so..

Where do y'all put the GPS antenna thing? Instructions say you can put it on the roof but i dont want a wire running through the window. Putting it on top of the dash in the center by those vents should be good, right?

Anything else I should know before I go tomorrow?

Thanks

Most of the GPS antennas we do go inside the vechicle. The thing that sucks about GPS antennas is that they're a lot thicker then sat radio antennas, so running them in the cracks on the side of the windshield to the roof usually doesnt work. Ive got mine mounted in my center console, so you should be just find getting it mounted up on the dash.

As for the updates/background displays, im pretty sure that on the AVIC's you use the SD card slot on the front of the screen for that. I know thats how we update all the ones we install that dont have the 2.0 firmware on them yet.

Let us know how it turns out.

Best buy really pisses me off sometimes. First off, they didnt write my appointment down in their book so the installer wasnt expecting us. So instead of a 1-2 hour wait. All he would tell us was sometime before he gets off( which is 8 PM ). On top of that they quoted me $49 + parts to install. Twice they did this. But when i take it in today they say it'll be $150 + parts. ARGH! He did agree to lower it to $100 + parts, so $160 to install.

Who knows if/when i'll get it back and what itll look like. . Wish i knew how to do this stuff on my own.

Im sorry to hear you had a bad experience. When you originally were quoted, who did the quoting? A sales guy or was it an installer? That happens to us all the time, a sales guy will misquote parts/labor, and then us installers take the blame for it. And trust me, it pisses us off just as much as it does you.

The labor shoulda been 100 to install the deck, and 20ish for the dash kit and 20ish for the wireharness. And a 5 dollar materials fee. The 50 dollars is what we charge for regular CD decks. 100 bucks for any indash mobile video, and usually 150 if the in dash has an external processor (like my AVIC N3 has).

Picked it up this evening. Havent had much time to play around with it but have notice a couple things that concern me. Sometimes the "button" dont work when pressed. Some functions arent selectable( system settings , when trying to view an SD card etc.. ) . Any ideas?

Will investigate more tomorrow.

That could just be pioneers safety features coming into play. I know on mine I cant always select the nav settings or enter in addresses when im moving (but i can still watch DVD's. Go figure). Did you for sure get one that was updated with the 2.0 firmware? It would have said so right on the box. If not, go on to pioneer's website and download it for free. Let me know if you have any other questions.
