Now you can run video/camera into Sync Nav Radios

Just got this email today. Figured I'd post it for you guys.

Tuesday, 21 October 2008

NAV-TV’s video input solution for the Ford SYNC navigation radio platform provides back-up camera and video in motion capability for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles equipped with the SYNC navigation radio. Boca Raton, FL and Detroit, MI, October 17, 2008 – NAV-TV®, the industry leader in vehicle network integration technology for infotainment and telematics device optimization, announces the release of the much anticipated Back-up camera and Video in Motion (ViM) input module for the Ford SYNC navigation radio system. The back-up camera interface provides a plug and play solution for adding a backup camera to reduce blind zones when moving in reverse. The video input module allows for video to be displayed on the factory LCD screen while the vehicle is in motion for the enjoyment of the passengers. The first public display of this new release will be at the 2008 SAE Convergence Expo, being held at COBO Hall in Detroit, October 20th – 22nd.

This plug and play module represents an important step in the evolution of NAV-TV for new product development. The NAV-TV Ford SYNC (Powered by Microsoft) module allows for video in motion on the factory navigation screen. “The Ford SYNC system has been very successful in the market and this input module by NAV-TV allows for existing SYNC users to now be able to add a back-up camera system and video in motion to their Ford vehicle.” stated Moni Melman, CEO of Nav-TV. “NAV-TV is always seeking to add safety, entertainment and convenience to our customer’s automotive experience. We intend this to be the first in a wide line of new products for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle platforms that are utilizing the updated Ford vehicle network and Microsoft SYNC technology” stated Melman.

The NAV-TVALLSYNC allows for full integration to Ford SYNC equipped vehicles and is compatible with the Ford SYNC navigation radio. Designed, engineered and validated to maintain the look and feel of the factory installed system. The ALLSYNC system is designed to be dealer- and/or user-upgradeable for future software updates and product enhancements via USB.

Cool. Does this only apply to those who have a 2009 vehicle with SYNC?

not sure. Very limited info on this unit right now. The real display of it will be at the SEMA show. If I go to SEMA this year I'll be sure to stop by the Nav-TV booth. I have used their interfaces on GM, Mercedes and Land Rover vehicles before.

Any updates for the previous nav systems? I would love to view DVD video on my '07 OEM Nav head unit. Let me know if there are any tips. Thanks. - Og

Two places that I know about that can do it for a price.

AV Electronic Inc. Runs about $325 to do it and you send them the radio

Sorry to get off topic here...
KC, is there a way to hook the FACTORY reverse cam (that goes to the rear view mirror monitor) to an Eclipse AVN5435 (or any aftermarket DVD/Nav)?
2009 F250 PSD.

Thanks...

This is some info I got from a installers forum

These is the wiring at the camera itself. It most likely will be the same up at the mirror.

The camera connector has six positions, five are used....ignition, ground, video +, video -, shield.

The following colors are:

Ignition - White/Brown
Ground - Black
Video (+) - White/Green
Video (-) - Brown/Violet
Shield - Bare Wire

Hope this helps! Let me know what you find out. I have yet to work on a truck with the OEM camera when I put a indash monitor into it. All have been ones which I put an aftermarket camera on.
