I really can't stand the Kenwoods. Their menu systems are horrible, it looks like it came out of a computer built in the 50s. I'd highly suggest trying to find a Pionner D3. They just stopped making them so you might still be able to find one. It's got the same layout as the 5120 but it's got the nicer menus etc.

Depends on how much screen size matters to you. If it isn't a big concern, go 5120.

I always look for Thumper's opinions on audio/video stuff, but disagree with him here on the Pioneer vs. Kenwood. I researched the D3 for a long time, but ended up going Kenwood for the better Satellite radio interface and USB input. Menus aren't pretty, but are functional.

I'm not saying the Kenwood is a bad unit. If you can deal with the menus than it's a great unit. I've installed one in my girl's car with no problems. I just can't get over the menus.

I just installed a 5120 with Polk 571's in my '08 Screw about a month ago. Took a road trip down to New Orleans with some buddies shortly after the install. The trip gave me plenty of opportunity wring things out and play with the features. I can say that I was very satisfied with the overall performance of the unit. The nav feature was way more than satisfactory and typical of what you expect from Garmin. The controls are pretty intuitive and the graphics are bright and crisp. The Garmin nav was one of the major selling points for me, as well as the fact that you don't have to sacrifice using the nav unit to play a CD or DVD, as I have heard you must do with some other units. I think having to do that is utterly unacceptable in a unit in this price range with today's technology. Just a few thoughts to help you make a decision.

I don't mean to offend Thump or anything, but I'm gonna go with the Ken. 8120 for the same reason that most have stated, the garmin nav. I know some who have the 7100 and 5120 and have no prob. with the menus on those systems. I like the pioneers, but hate the nav. on them. I don't like having to load discs for a navigation system, plus if you want to update the nav you have to buy a new disc, which costs to much $$$. With the Kenwood you have a usb slot that you can update online, no fuss no muss

Mitch, you don't even have to go on line to upgrade the nav system. Garmin/Kenwood sends you upgrad discs whenever there is an upgrade to the system. I hadn't had my system a full month when I received my first upgrade disc in the mail.

I cant decide between the Kenwood 7120 and the Pioneer AVIC-Z2 but I've only heard good things about garmin so this might help in the decision.

He is so right. I can not stand kenwoods, I have one in my truck, but can not stand them. I only put it in casue i had it laying around. but the menues do suck. But to counter that the only reason i say that is because every kenwood head unit is different with there menu navagation. Pioneer is almost the same with everyone they make. i used to install so everyone one i put in(kenwood) i had to learn a new way to navagate. best bet is go to best buy or somewhere that has them and try them see what you like more. I say D3
