question about nav radio
question about nav radio
i am thinking about getting a pioneer z2.i am wondering if the navigation is updateable or not.if not,is the navigation updateable on any radio.i want to get this radio and i need gps.i know the portable gps units are updateable thats why i ask.thanks.
I think all the in vehicle Nav's run on DVD's that are all upgradeable. Here is link to Navteq that does all the DVD's. Upgrade DVD's run $149 to $199.

from what i see they have very limited to no selection on discs.most of those are for factory navigation.so i guess there is no updateing these radios.i want to spend the money but i need the gps for my job and i hate to have to buy i new radio for updated gps.well thanks anyway.
The Pioneer Avic-Z2 has a built in hard drive which does not use a disc for the navigation. It's built into the system. It's a good system. To update, when they come out, you just load a disc into the system and it'll update it. Very easy. I suggest you buy from SonicElectronix.com, it's ~$1100 shipped with the wiring harness and dash kit. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them and they are one of the cheapest places. The other places just have horrible customer service.
hey thumper is the install all that hard of this unit?i also wanted to know if the by pass was too hard to do.i am really wanting this unit.one last question, does this unit have 6 c.d.?thanks
The install is pretty easy. I've never installed a navigation headunit and I was able to do it. I took my time with it, soldered all of the connections, etc. I also had to wire in a voltage regulator due to getting a popping noise because the Shaker500 sound system (car in my sig).
The bypass isn't that bad. Have you found a link to do it? It's not like you used to be able to do (Grounding the Parking Brake). I'll try to find the link and post if you haven't seen it, just let me know.
No it's a single cd unit. The navigation is built onto the unit so you don't need one for the navigation. Also you can save songs onto the hard drive. Although, I believe you can buy a 6 cd disk changer from Pioneer to work with it.

I have the 08 with the nav and it does indeed take a disc. They usually make a new disc every year with updates. I had a Acura before and it was the very same way. The difference was they sent me a new disc each year free of charge. With Ford finally getting up to speed on some of the add ons I think you will see a better selection soon.
