Avic D3 vs Kenwood DNX7100 vs Avic Z2

Alright guys I'm looking to buy a Nav unit..

I'd like a head unit that has a good iPod interface. I mostly use my ipod to listen to music and they have to work well together for me to be happy.. The navigation should also be good, not getting lost, confused or sluggish operation I'd like to stay away from in a new head unit.

Anyone who has one of these could you just throw down some pro's and con's on the unit you have.

I've noticed these are some of the most talked about units.. So lets try and only keep this to members who have these specific units and post pro's and con's on there specific unit only..

Thanks

I definitely have to go with the AVIC D3 when based solely for iPod functionality. Its Ipod menu is quite similar to the one on the ipod, but Artist search can be long if you have a big songbook. I usually just make playlists because there better anway, compared to listening to a single artist over and over again.

It is a great unit for the price, but lacks a second disk slot so its either cd (or dvd, whichever), then no navigation without programming its route first, or vice versa. But it is really cool in that its got an unlimited range for the color scheme of the buttons, and other color schemes for the screen.

I have the DNX 7100, I installed it in Dec. and love it!
Pros:
I have it hooked up to my 80 gig ipod and hardly ever listen to radio anymore.
The nav in the DNX is provided by Garmin so its top of the line IMO. The memory for the nav is internal so no fooling around with disks and it will react/redirect very quickly.
Cons:
It has a lot of different menus and options to sort through.
It does offer 7 different tilts for the screen but they all seem to be to much or not enough if you need them which luckly I haven't.

Before I bought mine I read all the reviews on crutchfield on the same 3 you are interested in. It helped a little in my decision.

Hope this helps!

For the mapping - Z2.
Ipod functionality - D3
Other functions - Z2
Ease of use - D3/Z2

The DNX7100 is a pain in the *** to use.

This guy is a pioneer guy...don't listen to him. All he gives is 1-sided reviews.

I have the DNX7100 and bought it because I dont want to screw around with switching CD's for NAV like D3.....GENERIC! The DNX7100 has it built in and it is VERY user friendly...my girlfriend could even figure it all out.

Ive got the DNX 7100 and love it. The ipod interface is excellent. Choose music by the author, album or song. The nav is Garmin so it is first rate. It is very hard to get 'lost'. Make a wrong turn and it recalculates your route very quickly. No discs to mess with as the nav is hard drive based. I would get another one of these tomorrow.

Mine includes the DNX7100, ipod adapter, bluetooth hands free, PAC steering wheel control adapter & reverse camera.

Not going to knock anyones personal opinions of the unit they have. I have the D3 in my truck and can speak only of it's features. I love the IPOD, XM and multi-disc controls as well as the nav function. A simple solution to the lack of a second disc slot is to purchase a multi-disc, which is what I did. I have a 12disc pioneer installed under the pass side rear seat (previously jack location) of my supercab. Depending on where you order your unit, you can probably get a discount if buying multiple items. I ordered through Crutchfield, got the 12disc for 150 and a free back-up camera. Just my two cents worth.

I have installed many of the DNX7100 and I HATED it. One sided, no. I will side with the best product for the options given. Whether it be the Alpine, Eclipse, Pioneer, Kenwood, Panasonic, JL (dont make radios...), etc. How many of the products have you had time to sit down and mess with for hours on end? I can actually say I do or dont like something based on facts. (with a few opinions... But thats guaranteed)

I hated the menus, multiple pages full of lists, then there are more lists behind those, then arrows on top to go to another few pages of lists. It doesnt quit. Plus, one of my good friends has the DNX. I helped him install it and was excited about it until I had to use it. Then the nav and XM completely separate of the rest of the radio? WTF? Now, I did like the USB's and the ability to run a center because of the built in DTS decoder. That was cool...

MGP32 - havent you used my help before...? Dont listen to him...?

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a 7100.. Anyone install lately with new pics??

I think I'm leaning this way because of the built in Garmin GPS. I like the idea of being able to utilize the cd/dvd drive, have nav capability, and iPod connectivity without any interference or connectivity issues.

Anyone else got any other suggestions before i buy?? If i don't go with a DNX7100, then i'm going for a D3...
