factory navi unit ?

I want to install OEM navi unit in my 04-fx4, question I have is do I just install the navi headunit (programmed to fit my 04 f150) only or do I have to get dvd driver with it. Additionally, checking ebay, why do Ford have so many discs for maps. Reason for the 1st part of the question is that I have 06 Honda Pilot and navi dvd driver is under the pass. seat. thanx.

You only need one disc. If you are installing a factory Nav unit, you only need this one disc.

Not trying to be a d*ck or anything, but why do you want the factory unit?

I think a portable $350 Garmin unit is better than the OEM. And for $1,300 or so, you can get a new in-dash Pioneer AVIC unit with larger better screen, DVD capability, safety removal, IPOD connection, Etc. installed.

not to be a d*ck...but if you are talking about the avic3...the screen is smaller..only one drive, one disc not 6 disc. very slow to react, poor signal when up against the factory oh yeah only 1 year warranty for the avic3 vs 3 years for the factory, and its not $2000 like the window sticker says,,,,its $1400 when you get it, i dont know anyone who paid "fool" retail for a truck yet.

i guess you would know since you have a factory unit....i do, and a garmin on my motorcycle...friend has the avic3 and takes about 3 times to find sats everytime he fires it up....and when it does find them its several streets off for about another 10 mins.

No, I was referring to the AVIC-Z2, which has 7" screen, 10 GB (no need for CDs), Bluetooth, IPOD Connector, DVD player and great navigation.

If your friend is having problems with AVIC Navi, then maybe it wasn't installed correctly or the antenna location is bad?

I have a Garmin 350 on my F150, and a AVIC unit in my Expedition. It is worlds better than the OEM unit.

ok i guessed you were talking about the d3 not the z2 with the price you gave....i think you need to add a few hundred more than $1300 for the price you gave when you said it could be installed for $1300...yes you might could get a refurbished on ebay for $900 installed for $1300, but not a factory new for $1100 installed...but still need wiring harnesses (multiple) and then to have it installed.

nope no problem with his unit...he works downtown and parks in a parking garage daily....when he goes in the gps is lost then the system just looses its mind. he parks goes in then comes out and then searches for 5 mins for a signal once he emerges from the paking garage...then while his is driving downtown driving through the buildings it says he is on the wrong street for about the next 10 mins....when i go downtown the factory unit has speed sensors and steering sensors(intune with the truck itself not the ant signal), even when my signal goes out and i pull into a parking garage my gps will show with no signal icon, but still work...and work correctly immedately, not 10 mins later after you missed your turn

then if he already has factory sirius he is good to go with a factory unit....order the truck with sat radio for $195 and ford gives $495 instant rebate...add that rebate to the $1400 factory unit....the factory unit is now only $1100 installed with 3 year warranty

and for those who dont have an extra 1-2k dollars they could possibly finance that in thier truck note for possible 0.0% if they bought/buy at the right time.

7 inch that is the larger same size as factory

I got a Z2 (brand new) installed for $1300 minus taxes. It was $1,400 and some change OTD.

I never had any problems with the Navigation on my AVIC. I live in downtown San Diego, with underground parking, and when I do lose my signal in the garage, I only takes seconds to gain a signal after I leave the garage. Just as fast as my portable Garmin. Though the Garmin does have the best user interface.

As for quoting pricing, you are talking about working a deal on a NEW truck right? Isn't the OP talking about getting a factory OEM unit for his 04' truck? How does that apply then?
