thanks for the input guys. I think I'm leaning toward the Ford OEM nav. I really like the clean factory looks of the unit.

factory invoice on navi 1600
add sirius sat radio ford gave 495
my total without lifting a finger with 3 yr warranty 1100

add a d3 with all harnesses, extra hard drives, sat radio, adapter plates and new jacks then have it installed with one year warranty and still only have one drive.....ummmm.....uh.....not cheaper

and have a couple of jelly beans (the ant for the sat radio and navi with exposed wires....)

and the d3 is on about the cheapest end of the aftermarket navi spectrum

i dont understand this math hahaha, been a long week.

But how did you get such a good deal, $1100, on the factory nav unit? I really want one (07 KR, Audiophile, Sirius) to complete my truck.

cant understand 1600 - 500 = 1100???

ford factory navi 1995...invoice is 1600
if you add sirius sat radio ford gives you a $495 rebate, not $500 more, $500 less...its like when ford gives you $1000 cash back...certain trucks with certain options get certain kick backs....lariats and hd not sure about king ranch got $495 rebate for getting sat radio added.

im from chicago too and if you decide to get the DNX7100,i could maybe get it from a store i always get my stuff, for 1200(got mine for 1200).i know it isnt the same price as the ones online but its brand new(i know all the tricks of online electronics purchase.its a long story but trust me on this one)plus you can return it ASAP if theres something wrong with the unit since its local.
you can get the IPOD connector too for 30 bucks at frys.
i can help you install all of it(as long as you get all the required/needed parts..harness,bezzel,etc,etc...)
just PM me if you need help.

Hey I didn't say it's cheaper! and if you install ure antennas right, you won't get exposed wires...if you buy the d3 from a major retailer there are 4 year protection plans available, get it installed at circuit city or best buy and you got lifetime warranty on the installation.

but I like the fact of adding in usb..not to mention a mic for voice commands, bluetooth, sat. radio, aux in for audio, video in (for a backup cam or whatever), dual zone out for rear monitors/overhead, front rear and sub pre-outs, and a front jack... I'm the kind of guy that WILL add more to my rig, to me the factory nav. wouldn't cut it for all those add ons I would want. That's just me though! I got another stereo I will use for my cd player/extra dvd player if I'm using the navi, I would hook up the single din to the aux in for the audio/video and use the d3 exclusively for output of sound/video and most importantly navi.
looks like the factory navi can't do as much as the d3 in some ways...

could have been clearer when you 1st mentioned it.. some of us didn't JUST buy a truck that had that option available and certain dealers give different deals too

yes they give lifetime on the install, but not on the equipment. yes they sell an extended plan, but then you are adding more money once again. yes the d3 could be made to do more, but at what cost, and how many want a home theater in thier truck, i stay at home to watch my movies. it still amazes me that people will buy a cheap vehicle and have more in stereos and wheels than thier vehicle is worth.

I have about 1495.00 into my system.

Kenwood DNX7100
Kenwood blutooth
Kenwood Ipod adapter
PAC SWC adapter
Rear view camera
Polk component speakers in the front doors
Polk 5 x 7 in the rear doors

Installed all the above in my driveway over the course of a weekend. System sounds great. I was going to add a sub, but now am unsure as I like the music. Nav is excellent (Garmin based).

There are no exposed wires anywhere. My ipod cables and my USB cable are both in my glovebox. I use the center console, so the glovebox was totally empty. Hence, I put the cables in there.

The factory nav system does not have all the features of the Kenwood, and the Kenwood looks like it was installed at the factory. The only thing I do not like is my bluetooth mic location. I will move that. Other than that the system is good.

I was quoted 400+ to install just the radio. Thought that was nuts so did it myself and saved $$$.

I have no regrets going aftermarket. The system is head and heels above what you can get from the factory and the system sounds better.
