Nope, not true. I too had the D3 installed last week. There is a special harness available for Ford Audiophile systems that makes the sub work. You do have to add a 5volt resistor in the line to the sub amp so it wont pop when you turn it on. I would tell your installer to do a little research on it.

this is why i recommend doing the research and installing yourself, it is a piece of cake. 3/4 of the installers i have spoken with have no clue what the hell they are talking about.

as stated above, there is a special harness.

this is the harness that you need

yup i agree gonefishin. i got the d3 and i did it for my first EVER car audio install. After getting all the wiring and diagrams from crutchfield, it was a piece of cake. i did have the audiophile sub when i installed it (have upgraded.) and that harness will work but when you turn on there is a loud thump. nothing wrong but if you want to get rid of it, someone posted the correct resistor you needed to put in between the harnesses. Good luck

Give your installer this and tell him to figure it out nah don't take it back to him!! If you are handy do it yourself!
I just tapped into the line level out bn/or rd/blk by putting an RCA male end on them then plugged the rca to the mono sub input on an in dash (if you have the pair of inputs use 2 ends or splitter), then ran a remote turn on to dg/vt, of course wire in your resistors to avoid the pop!
