I just purchased a W205 from my local Alpine dealer, they are saying that I do not need a dash kit to install the radio. I just did I quick fit of the radio and it appears that that there is going to be a gap all around the radio, and I am not really sure how it would be secured into the hole. Anyone have experience with installing the W200 or W205? Any help would be great, even a link to another post..

 

Your local Alpine dealer is incorrect. You must have a fit kit...that way you have the gaps covered AND it has 4 holes to secure it in the dash JUST like the factory system.

I am a little shocked that a dealer told you this.

 

Your telling me, I thought I was going nuts. I knew the 205 was smaller then the stock HU, but he thought for sure you could remove 4 brackets from the stock HU and bolt them onto the 205 and it would fit. I'll have to go back and see them tomorrow and get them to order one up. I've installed single din units before but this is my first double, thought something might be different so I didnt put up much of an argument.

Man if you are like me I know having that 205 in your possession and not having it hooked up is driving you nuts. Its worth the wait. Very simple to use.

There are a few different kinds of kits out there. Best and Metra. You could prob run to your local BestBuy or CC and pick one up tonight.

Well lucky me they had no dash kits in stock, and given I live in Northern Ontario Canada we only have one decent store that carries Car Audio supplies. So the placed and order for me and I also ordered a Metra kit off of ebay just to be safe, only cost me like 5 bucks so no big deal if I end up with two.

In the meantime I am running all new speakers wires and mounting my amps behind the seats, I didnt like them just sitting under the seat. I am also working on putting a small monitor in the overhead storage bins, and pre wiring the w205 for when the kit comes in I can just slid it in and go.

So hopefully by next week, everything should be just about wrapped up, I will post some pics when I get things cleaned up. Now to decide if I am going to pick up a B200 when they are available.
