Avic-D3 Installed w/ pics

I purchased the Avic-D3 from a local stereo shop two weeks ago and they finally got it in stock and installed it last Friday. So far I am very happy with the unit. The installation looks great. I took the truck on its first camping trip over the weekend, so the D3 was able to get its first real test. I am very pleased with its ease of use and overall functionability. I had the I-pod adapter installed which allows me to hook up my I-pod so that I never have to remove the Navigation cd. I previously owned the Avic-N1, and this is a much easier to use system with many more useful features. One of my favorite features was its ability to change the color of its buttons to match the green that came standard in my FX4.

Looks sweet! What did the unit cost you, if you don't mind me asking?
Did you have the audiophile? Did you stay with the factory speakers? A big difference in sound?

Looks great, what dash kit did your installers use as that looks different (better) then ones i have seen. I just bought the Avic-Z2 on Saturday, and will be getting it installed this week and would definately like to use the same dash kit you have.

The D3 cost me $1,400 out the door including the unit, wiring harness, I-pod connector, dash kit and installation. I am new to this forum, so I am not sure what the audiophile is, but I had the factory single cd player that came with the FX4 in 2004. Yes, I did keep my factory speakers. To be honest, I have not heard a big difference in sound. In fact I am a little dissapointed so far with the sound. I am considering upgrading the speakers so that I can take full advantage of the new unit.

Hmmmm....I was wondering about the sound. My box of new speakers arrived on Friday, but haven't installed them as of yet.

Like what destinydog and 1 Krazy Kanuck mentioned.....what dash kit did you use and where/how were the Ipod speakers ran/hidden?

Thanks and enjoy it. Looks damn good!

Well seeing as no one knew what the dash kit is, I did a little hunting and found and bought the kit myself today.

I put the info in my gallery under my Harley Gallery.

Sorry for the late response. I wasnt able to find out what dash kit was used in the install but it looks like you were able to figure it out. But I am really happy with the way that it turned out.

The navigation antenna is installed on the dash towards the windshield on the passenger side. I attached a picture below. It doesnt seem to stick out too much, so it looks nice.

I asked to have the Ipod cable installed inside of the center console under the arm rest. He told me that they typically install them in the glove compartment, but that seemed to far out of the way to me. I find that inside of the center console is a very conveniant location. I have easy access to the Ipod.

Looks nice and it looks like it is factory. Do you think you can get some night shots with it lit up?

I just snapped some night photos of the D3 for you guys to see. My camera does not take the best night pictures, but you can still get a pretty good idea as to how the unit looks in the dark. The unit blends in very well with the dash at night, almost as if it were factory installed.

Thanks. That looks really good, and I might have to get one soon. This site keeps costing me more and more money all the time.

That looks great... I have not looked into navigation ever... but if I were not still living at home after college, saving for a house, and saving for a future daily driver with 100K on the truck right now I would definitely get that for the truck... looks awesome.
