Pics of Overhead Screens

Does anyone have pics of their overhead screens with the sunroof? I am thinking about doing it but, would like to see some pics and tips on how you attached it. I really do not want to just attach it to the headliner. Seems like it needs more support than that. Thanks.

your headline wont be able to handle the weight of the screen, its just too heavy, if someone tells you that it can it will fall off in a bump. They have to use bracket to attach it to the roof for support.

I would think so. Anything bigger than maybe 7" and I am sure you need more support. I was hoping someone had done it and added a support bar. Guess I might have to just pull the headliner and see for myself.

That almost looks like a rail system that stops at the sunroof. You can barely make out the bars on both sides.

You are correct sir. That is an aftermarket sunroof installed and they just capped off the front console and the rails.

So I wonder could the opposite work. Add the rail system to a factory sunroof and modify the rail system like they did on that one?

The factory overheads that I install in the expedition with sunroof has a long aluminum bracket that spans across the entire roof and screws into each side to support the weight of the monitor. With some work you could make something like that using some 4"x1/4" steel stock that you ark across the roof and then weld a smaller section to it looking similar to a leaf spring. I did that in a customers older suburban w/moonroof to support a 10 inch monitor. A monitor that has a shroud works the best to maintain clearance so the wiring clears the slider.

Keep in mind drop down monitor will obstruct the rear view mirror. Your factory headrests are wide enough to fit a 5.6" monitor or even a 6.5" if done without the mounting shroud and custom mounted from behind. I wish I could post pictures of some F150s I have done but the hardrive that had them is long gone A lot of custom work went with it

A lot of companies offer replacement headrests with monitors installed. Accele Vision, Myron & Davis, Saav, Visualogic and a a dozen other "me too" sister companies with the same product from the same factory such as VST, Power Acoustik, Soundstream, Farrenheit, Nesa Vision. I would stick with the 4 prior mentioned companies for guaranteed quality unless money saved is the defining factor of selection

Both Miron & Davis and Visualogic offer headrests with DVD players built right in but Visualogic goes one step further. Their headrests are OEM duplicates so if you like the unique look of the factory F150 headrest and want to keep it the same then they got ya covered.

Hope this helps you or any other viewers out.

Thanks for all the tips.

I used aluminum when I did the one in my wife's pilot. But, I used the factory mounting locations in it and all I had to do was drill and tap some holes for it. I will probably end up pulling the headliner at some point to take a look see.

Headrest monitors would be easier but, my reason for getting a back seat video is for my 2 1/2 year old and he sits in the middle. He can see the screen in the dash just fine but, I would prefer he have something closer to him so, we could turn the dash screen off if we choose.

Sorry i dont have any pics (ill take some tomorow after after her bath) but iv got a dealer installed 12" in the rear(that sounds bad) of my truck and it has the factory power sun roof, from what i can tell there is some piece of wood above the headliner i think glued to the roof used for support, i just cant figure how to get it down so i can tie it to my Z1
