Eclipse 6600 - Grounding Parking Brake and Speed Pulse ?

I recently installed a 6600 in my 04 F150 FX4.

Everything is working great, but when I switch to Nav mode I get the 'Check Speed Pulse' message for a few seconds at the top of the map. I tapped into what I thought was the grey/black VSS wire in the factory wiring harness.

My question is, should the Speed pulse work even if I have the parking brake wire grounded all the time?

If so, I will go back and double check my VSS splice and cable.

Thanks

Check this link out to verify your speed sensor wiring. http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31939

I have an AVN6600, but I wired up the parking brake and have had no issues. I've no reason drive and watch DVD's or try to input a destination into the NAV while driving. I've seen far too many people who think they can drive while putting on makeup, reading the newspaper, etc. If anyone discovers why cellphone users pull into the far left lane of the Interstate and slow down to talk on the cellphone I'd be curious to hear the reason.

Speed pulse, I believe, needs to be connected -- not grounded.

Rockpick - I believe he means he grounded the parking brake connection rather than actually connect it to the parking brake switch so DVD's, VTR, and certain Nav programming functions will work while in-motion. The grey wire with the black stripe he mentions should be the speed pulse. He may not have made a good connection when he made the tap or Eclipse has done like Pioneer and made their system harder to fool than before.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. The minute I posted, I knew the title was a little confusing.

The parking brake wire is grounded and the VSS wire is connected to the gray/blk wire (I think ).

I just want to make sure that the speed pulse on the AVN will work while the parking brake wire is on constant ground.

thanks again.

Which VSS wire did you hook up to? If your factory radio has speed sensitive volume you can find the VSS wire in the radio harness. I used this in my 2000 F150 with my kenwood navigation system and it works great. Also the VSS wire typically has a diode on it (white wire with kenwood, not sure with eclipse). If you cut the wire downstream of the diode you will have to replace it. Just my 2 cents hope it helps.

I have an 05 and just installed a Pioneer Z1... I used the the grey wire with black stripe found at pin #14 on the stock radio connector. My stock radio had the speed sensitive volume. No problems to date and the speed indicated on the radio vehicle monitor matches my edge evo exactly...

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go back in there this weekend. My bet is i just spliced the wrong wire off the HU harness.
