GPS antenna for in dash navigation

I am about to take the plunge on an indash navigation system (probably Eclipse AVN 5435, but I haven't decided yet). I dont want to use the antenna that comes with it if I have to run the wire outside the truck. I would prefer to find an aftermarket antenna that would mount through the roof like my factory Sirius does. Does anybody know anything about buying a different antenna? If this isn't possible how well does the Eclipse antenna work if mounted the cowl? I found a GPS antenna for GM but it included a PCS antenna as well (for Onsnitch) and was too bulky. Thanks for any help.

GPS Antenna

I am about to get the Eclipse AVN6600 and I want to use the factory antenna for my Sirius in my 2005 F150 KR. Can this be done ??? Is there some modification that needs to be done ??? If so, what is it ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just installed the AVN 5435 in my truck last weekend and I didn't bother running the antenna outside the truck. It's actually on my dash right up against the windshield on the left side of the truck. It hardly noticeable and the reception is fine. I'll try and get a pic of it for you guys.

Thanks for the info, I guess that means it's not that critical where you put it. The center section of the dash is dark gray anyway if it was centered right against the windshield I bet it wouldn't be noticable. I may try that to make cable routing easier.

The antenna is just below my inspection and reg stickers... Its easy to run the wires hidden to this location. The wire tucks down out of sight between the two dash pieces.

I have read some posts from people who mounted their GPS antenna under the ice cube tray cowling between the widshield and the hood. Might be worth a try to see if it works before drilling holes in the roof.

I always install the gps antenna inside like what speedfreak did, always works well and always stays dry. The factory sirius antenna can be used with the eclipse sirius tuner, just simply pop off the plastic guard on the connector and plug it into the eclipse.

Holy (expletive) those are some amazing installations there nothinbutaford. Back to what you were saying regarding the eclipse and the factory Sirius antenna. The timing of your post couldn't have been more perfect. Just this morning on my commute I was wondering if I could connect my AVN5435 to my factory Sirius antenna. Thanks
