Backup Camera Wire Routing, 12VDC Source

The wtf - the cam does work, but it doesn't come on auto when I shift into reverse like it should.
I tapped the 'reverse' wire from my Kenwood head unit into fuse #14 (05 SuperCrew Lariat), and am pulling the DC for the camera at the center backup light wire on the 7 pin connector - live only when in reverse.
It worked fine when I did a dry run by powering the cam with a wall charger and hooking up the purple Kenwood wire to the known hot on the cig. lighter to simulate reverse. When in any mode, the head unit switched to the cam when I livened up the wire, and returned to normal when I cut the juice. On the final install the head unit doesn't switch back and forth from a normal display to the backup camera when I shift in and out of reverse. It does work, but I have to **** around with the buttons to pull up the bumper camera display.
I'm now wondering if the trouble lies in the fuse panel, like a crossed wire or something. Man, I'd like to throttle the Ford engineer who designed and placed the fuse relay system in this truck. The '02's was on the drivers side, plenty of light and clearance.
It's getting dark out and I'm fairly well pissed off, but I'll figure it out one day this week.

thinking out-loud
What's the bottom circle on your bumper? Is that a backup sensor like a radar? I'm assuming the top is your new camera. Nice install job!
what about the video settings on your HU? is there a setting for "auto reverse cam" on there? -nevermind you said it was working fine when testing it...
like Zaairman said, i have it all wired into the trailer 4pin connector too
...would there be too much interference if you ran the reverse sensing kenwood wire back to the trailer harness near the video lead? maybe just send it down the other side of the truck so it doesn't get "noise". Maybe test it tomorrow by connecting a loose wire from the deck reverse wire back to the trailer harness and see if it comes on the way you want it to.
At least it looks good back there!

I did use the 12v on the 7pin. It's the wire in the center I think it was blue. Mine can be on all the time because it is also hooked up to a ignition 12v circuit as well so I can turn it on and leave it on with the key. The set up I bought has a hook up for two cameras. It's the VIZUALOGIC HINDSIGHT c-1000 model.
Thanks
here's mine in the handle; a little off center but it doesn't touch any metal, and I didn't have to shave, grind, or take the handle out to mount it:

Hey Zairmann, did you get the wiring issue resolved ? it looks like i overlooked a detail...when i step on the brake the camera signal goes out (or maybe gets TOO much juice) using the 4 pin on the left of the tow package wiring. Oh well, i'll have to tinker with it this weekend. I'd like to be able to turn it on with just the light switch so i don't need to run any extra wires. Which pins are you using on the round connector? thanks

I LIKE the cam placement Rib. I wish my cam was narrow enough to fit there - that was my original plan. BTW, I did take the tailgate handle all the way out when I was testing various locations. It's a piece of cake, but I indexed the two threaded rods, the up/down placement of the latch assy., and the placement of the plastic handle with a paint pen BEFORE I started undoing the two nuts. That way I was sure it would go back in exactly the way it was originally.
Hi guys,
I just got a 07 F150 and am hoping to find out how I can easily wire to something that is "always on" to allow the camera to be on demand. Is there a source for wiring info for the truck you guys could recommend?

If you have the tow package with the 7-pin connector, there's a wire that's live whenever the ignition (probably accessory, too) is on. I forget the color/position, but the spring loaded cover on my '05 has a diagram that shows what pin is what.
This is what I used for my camera install and I can turn the cam on whenever the truck is running.
As an aside, my head unit displays the cam video when the truck is started, and it's saved my butt a few times as it prevented me from pulling away with the tailgate down.
Good luck!

oops, sorry I should have look first. Funny thing is I saw you post that a while ago. I forgot I guess I'm getting old
