Love My Z1

I just got had my Z1 installed about a week ago. This unit is what it is truly all about. I am still trying to find if there is a way to bypass the speed sensor for DVD playback while driving. Other than that, I can't stay out of my truck!

Found a posting from another site.

I was just looking around and found a thread from another site. Seemed relevant so I'll cut and paste some of it.

"if thats the case, then you will not be able to playback DVD or other sources with GPS enabled while driving either. how about that."

"This is just what he said over the phone but he may figure out a firmware fix. They siad they just did another install and this is what they did. But as to your question why would you want to play DVD AND watch the nav. It would usually be one or the other anyways.

I got the unit today and the instruction booklet was all i could use as its not installing until friday. But I noticed the NAV mode has like 10 different modes like the TOMTOM. It has a DRIVER mode which is super cool. It is like a 3D view of driving, with buildings and gas stations. Super cool. It also has all the modes in split screen if you wish.

The nav traffic I have never used but it appears to tell you the speed on the roads as well as why its slow. And if its slow it takes you another calculated route. Sounds like it will be functionally amazing, but real world calculations will have to be seen.

All in all its amazing from the manual. I picked up a unit for 1500 so you are definitely paying a premium. But it seems worth it."

That is what was done when the D1 and N2 first came out. Not only do you have to interrupt the speed sense wire, but the GPS antenna wire also. It knows when you are moving.

But when you flip the switch the unit thinks you are standing still. Not very good if you are running a nav program AND trying to watch video at the same time.

My feeling: eventually someone will come out with a fix. Be patient and keep watching the skies. LOL.

Otherwise this unit is awesome! Well worth the wait and money.
I have an 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. I hooked up my Avic Z1. The only two wires I didnt hook up are the Pink cable speed signal input and the Violet and white cable(reversegear) Because I don't know what wires to hook them up to. Are the wires under the dash and what color. I did hook up the parking brake wire to the ground. I didnt know how to hook that up also. I do have one problem, I get a pop when I first turn on my radio. Does anybody know why this is and how do I fix problem.
Thanks
Tony

Pre July 06 units can be bypassed with a change to the illumination status during the pre boot screen.

When the white text comes up in the left top corner, turn the lights on and off... unit should be unlocked.

Post June 06 requires a pin grounded on the back for the bypass. Look at avic411.com for details.

Now if I can just afford one!

ALL OF THE ANSWERS TO MOST OF YOUR QUESTIONS ARE ON EBAY. THE BLUE TOOTH FOR THE Z1 IS ON THERE AND SO IS THE WAY AROUND THE DVD ISSUE. THE UNIT IS THE BEST THERE IS AND THE NAVIGATION IS UNREAL IN ITS ABILITY. IVE PLAYED WITH ONE FOR AWHILE AND NOW IM GETTING ONE INSTALLED NEXT WEDNESDAY.

I was considering purchasing one. I instead purchased the Magellan Unit. We all have personal preferences and you can not argue with taste. Aside from the more than double price of the Pioneer unit, another review I saw on a web site was the following:

"Poor quality (had it repaired 2 times since April 2006). IPOD adaptor is useless, voice recognition is so bad, my kids have me use it to make them laugh. Only words it recognizes is back, cancel route, and home. The hard drive idea is great, but that fact you can't copy mp3's makes it not worth the money. If you are like me you have already converted your CD's to MP3's and have favorites, etc. Why do I have to go through the process to reburn everything. And if the hard drive ever fails, you'll have to redo the entire process as you can't back it up. I've owned other Pioneer Nav systems which were good, but I'd buy anything else and save yourself some money and time."

Now this is this guys experience on a user review at ABTElectronics.com ( these are not my words) but I'd like to hear some other experiences.

I've had my Z1 for a week now and it is absolutely amazing. My installer was able to bypass all of the safety features. As far as the voice recognition, etc, mine works perfectly well. I have navigation in my Land Rover and my wifes Acura as well, but this unit blows them both away.

I read that negative review myself, but I've read too many positive ones to let one person sway me. Now that I have one myself, I'm VERY glad that I spent the money.

No but Pioneer now has the AVX-6P which is a 6 disk DVD/MP3 changer that the Z1, D2, and N3 will control.

You need the Metra 70-5521 harness. This will integrate your factory audiophile subwoofer with the aftermarket unit. It features RCA inputs that will connect directly into the back of your D2. Make sure you install a 1.5K ohm resistor inline for the remote turn-on lead. This will knock the remote lead voltage to 5 volts and keep the subwoofer from making a "POP" when turning the key on or off.

Ford Factory NAV or Z1

I can't make my decision here. I found a factory Ford F150 NAV for $900 shipped or I can spend another $700 to get the Z1... I don't know what to do. Z1 definitely sounds like a lot better system, but I don't know if it is worth for the money or installation hassle..

Any opinion is welcome!

Thanks

The Z1 by far is the better unit. You gain soooo much fore. The newer unit is easier to bypass so that you have full control over the navigation controls while driving. You can add bluetooth hands free, cd changer, dvd changer, sound processors, xm/serius satellite, the list goes on. You even get more power for your speakers than the factory.
