AVIC D1 installed this weekend
I installed my D1 this weekend along with my ps2 in the center console, so i must say this thing kicks ***, its navigation is awesome the picture is awesome and it sounds alot better...i also did the by pass and that makes it a thousand times better. The unit matches perfectly with the interior lights of the truck which ads to the "factory" look..i will post pics soon...rock on
I've got a pic of what it looks like installed in my gallery. Feel free to email my at davebolton@hotmail.com if you have any questions about how I did what, and i'll do my best to answer.
New F150
I just bought my 06 F150 this past weekend, and I am thinking about putting in the same head unit that you have here. I have the factory in dash 6 disc changer and was wondering if you know anything about the wiring along with it and if it is difficult to do. I also have a factory sub and amp under the back seat. Have you both had any experience with these things, let me know what your experiences were and if you had problems with the instalation! Thanks

I have another question about the AVIC-D1 head unit...is it possible to still use the controls on the steering wheel after changing out the stereo or did you all use some other remote device to control it?

I just bought the AVIC-D1 off Ebay, and I plan on doing the install myself. Question is, is there an install kit for a double din or does it just snap right in, and is the normal pioneer wirering harness that adapts it to the stock plugs all I need?
Thanks

well i havent been on in a while but i love the d1, its a great product. The dash kit for the 04-05 f150s is the one i used i just trimmed the inside out and fit the d1 inside, the wiring harness works like a regular one would....hopefully everyone who has, is getting one loves it
This is gonna be a little harder than you think....
The answer to your question is yes there is a difference. I had the D1 installed in my '03 Supercrew about two weeks ago and it was a pretty good little task. You have to do some cutting behind the dash and some trimming on the inside of the radio bezel. I would recommend letting an installer do it unless you are very confident cutting behind your dash. I wasn't, so I let a pro do it for me. I really like the way it turned out though. You can check out the pics at this site.
Phyxius, BradJohnson is correct. I installed the AVIC-D! in my 2000 Lightning, and had to do some cutting. My installer wanted $400 to install it. So I figured a new dash would be less than that! But all went well. If you need the wiring diagram, I'd be happy to email it to you.

Hey that would be great, I was just talking to a friend of mine that's is a stereo installer, and he mentioned a speed sensor wire that I need to hook up, and he gave me the harness # and the dash kit number I need. I will take all the help I can get. My e-mail is phyxius58@comcast.net
As for the cutting and fabricating, I'm pretty good at that, I kind of do some of it for a living in the aircraft industry

Goodluck and hope you enjoy it!
Lee,
That is great that you still want to take on the job and make it all work. I have had some people ask me where I got my Nav Unit installed and what had to be done. As soon as I told them that they had to cut some, they went back to a flip-out. I know for a fact that there is a metal bracket that you will have to take out of the dash and some trimming on the factory reciever installation bracket. If you look around on the internet, you will find pictures of people who trimmed the outer portion of their dash. You have another option and that is to trim the top portion of the Pioneer's trim ring. In other words, you will have a three sided trim ring. After you install the unit, it looks cleaner in my opinion. Keep us updated on the project and I will try to help as much as possible.
Goodluck!

I'm a daring kind of guy.
Did any af you guys that installed the D1 do anything to prevent it from getting ripped off. This is my greatest fear at this point.
By the way, I just recieved my brand new D1 from FEDEX this evening, and am hoping to install it this Sat. I'll let you know how it goes.
