AVIC D1 installed this weekend
The only thing that I have is a VIPER alarm system. I attend Auburn University so my truck is most of the time either at the University parking lot or right outside my apartment. It is an extremely loud alarm, so chances are I would here it if it was broken into outside my apartment. And I don't think many people have the guts to break into a vehicle that is sitting in a very busy parking lot (knock-on-wood; I seem to be having bad luck lately). I did see a custom install once where the installer cut the faceplate off of a factory deck and somehow was able to snap that on the aftermarket double-din unit when the vehicle is parked. That looked really good and was very ingenious. It wasn't in an f-150, but I am sure it could be done. Just take some thinking. (Could be another project). Goodluck!

All of the buttons are green, except for two which are blue. The unit matches Ford factory lights almost perfectly. The blue buttons are not intense enough to be annoying and they give the unit a little bit of a "custom" look. Just enough to definately know that it wasn't factory equipment.
Just got done installing the D1, what a PITA. It had to be one of the most difficult installs I have ever done in a truck. I couldn't believe the amount of stuff that needed to be cut in order to get the thing to fit. I tryed to find the parking brake switch to just install the wire to it, but had no luck, so I just hooked it to a ground for now.
I am having a problem with the CD player, it loads up reads the CD shows that it's playing but I can't hear anything. Am I missing something, or is it that I have hooked up a wire incorrectly. any help would be greatful.
By the way, the nav function is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the parking brake, I ran the wire directly over to the parking brake pedal itself. On the pedal is a little sensor, that when the brake is on, it pushed a little button in. There are two wires that lead in to that sensor, one is colored (green or pink maybe??) and the other is dark (black or brown). The colored wire is the one to splice into. If you don't hook in the parking brake wire, it will give you an error when you start up and I think may disable some functions.
As for the sound problem... did you use the correct wiring harness for your truck year? Try pushing the joystick in and go into the audio settings and make sure everything is set up. I assume you have the volume cranked too. Outside of that, you might be one of the few that got a defective one. Swap it out.

Not sure why you can't hear the sound coming from the CD that is being played. My only guess would be that something is wrong with the wiring harness or the radio itself. Can you hear sound coming from other sources? Like radio, or XM if you have it? Thumper24, the radio in the '04 and up models are an actual double-din radio; the radios that were put in the '03 and older models were somewhere between a 1 1/2 din and a double din. There is some cutting that has to be done to the dash in order to get the double-din units to fit correctly. I wish Ford would have put the double-din radio opening in their older models as well, because it gives the consumer a lot more options on an aftermarket stereo. As all F-150 owners know though, Ford Engineers didn't seem to put any thought into a consumer installing an aftermarket stereo, especially when it comes to subs!

Mine is a 2000 Lightning, so it has the smaller opening, there for cutting the support structure behind the unit was nessassary. As for the CD problem, I'm pretty sure I figured it out, I was really tired when hooking up the wires during fianl install, and apearantly hooked it up to the power antenna wire, instead of the accsessary wire, at least that's what the guy thought today when I went to get my alarm installed, yes I couldn't take thinking thatthe truck was sitting in my parking spot completely vulnerable, I had a Prestige two way pager type put in. Hope it works.

Thats definately good that you got an alarm installed on your truck. I feel alot better about mine since I do have an alarm; at least it gives you some security. I have never had any personal experience with Prestige alarms but I have heard that they work well. Goodluck with the CD problem and hope you enjoy the unit. You can check out this site. Eventually it will probably have some really good information on the unit and possibilities with it. Enjoy!

Installed my AVIC-D1 last night. All's good except for wiring the head unit to the factory subwoofer under the rear seat. I've seen some mention of a line converter (plain wires to RCA?). Also, I have the wiring schematic which shows four wires from the factory head unit to the sub (SW+, SW-, Enable, and Drain). I think the AVIC-D1 only wants to run SW+, SW-, and Power Antenna to the sub. Any help greatly appreciated.
