I have an AVIC N1 and i just grounded my parking brake lead. And i could watch DVD's all the time. I have read that with the N2 they changed everything so that it is more complicated to do. But, since i dont have the newer version i cant tell you what the deal is with it.

The N2 monitors your speed as well as the status of your parking brake. If you go over 10 mph, it will block your view of DVD/TV tuner/AV video input with a warning screen.

Got a question. What would want to watch while you drive?

Does it do this with the nav screen too, or just the DVD/TV? That would be annoying to be looking at the Nav screen and have the stupid warning blocking everything.

No. Not as big a problem as sounds on the surface. Nav screens can be viewed. Even the nav screen that is split with rear camera and route works without blocking.

It appears only the AV screens that would allow a driver to view video sources while actually moving. This allows you to comply with all state laws.

Does anyone know the color of the ebrake lead? I grounded the light green wire which I believe is the ebrake wire and it still won't let me watch DVDs while driving. As soon as I get over 5mph the screen is blocked and its a AVIC N1.

Our Pioneer guy claims to not know anything about it, but who knows, that may just be a line.

This bypass will do three things:
1. Makes all nav functions available while driving (just like they should be)
2. Make video playback available while driving
3. No more parking brake warning box!!!

AVIC-N2 lockout bypass: Underneath the MAIN unit (not the hideaway) is a small silver sticker, peel this back. There are two contacts with the label "R197". Drop a bit of solder between these to connect them. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire.

AVIC-D1 lockout bypass: Find an extra Pioneer wire harness, and pull one of the wires out. Or, if you do not use the A.ANT lead, pull that out of the harness. In the AVIC-D1 harness, there is one open spot on the connector (next to the ground wire). Put the wire into the open spot on the connector, connect the other side to ground, then re-connect the plug to the AVIC-D1. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire (or connect to a toggle switch if you feel the need).

Thats it, all there is to it, and all the lockouts are bypassed. Easy, give it a try.

I just installed my avic-n2, I tried the by-pass and it didn't work. I soldered the 2 points under the unit together. Than i grounded the parking brake to the radio ground, and it came up improper grounding of parking brake. Than i tried to ground to some metal on the frame. Still get the improper grounding of e-brake screen. What am i doing wrong. Where did you ground the brake wire.

Does anyone have a photo of the connector and wire on D1? Thanks!
