navigation and bluetooth ideas
here is what i want to do if possible:
1. I want an indash navigation (preferably avic-d1)
2. I want bluetooth capabilities so that I can connect my bluetooth compatable cell, speak through a microphone wired and listen through the stereo speakers in my car.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get this done??
thanks in advance

brydoc007,
You and I are thinking alike. I'm going with an AVIC-D1 and a bluetooth kit...I like the Motorola IHF1000 (check it out on eBay). The only problem I may have is that I'm going to go with Sprint for my carrier...I can't explain details (don't really understand them), but the Sprint setup is different than most other carriers, so most of what Motorola offers won't work with Sprint. Anyway, I've got someone looking into it for me.
At any rate, the Motorola bluetooth kit is supposed to be great, and it should work OK with the D1 system.

IHF1000 is exactly what I want. Are you going to mount the external speaker or wire it through your existing system. The only thing I dislike about the unit is that the control module is mounted with adhesive. Oh well seems like the best option. Sounds like it is exactly like most onstar systems! thanks for the info.

I am becoming a bluetooth expert using Sprint phones. I have an Eclipse 5495 on order. Currently, I have the Ford head unit with the plug-n-play Ford Mobile-ease bluetooth kit. This kit has always worked perfectly with my Sprint LG PM325 cell phone (one of only two bluetooth phones Sprint sells, the other is a bulky PDA/phone combo). Since this Mobile-ease is truely plug-n-play, I was going to sell it on Ebay when I sold my Ford HU. Consequently, I went shopping for another bluetooth car kit. The first one I tried was the Parrot Evolution. This system lacked very simple features, such as being able to dial a number by saying the number. You could only dial people that were in your phones contact list. Probably wouldn't have bothered me if I didn't use the Mobile-ease first, since you can tell the Mobile-ease both phone numbers or names to dial. Also, the Parrot would not stay connected with my phone. I would have to connect back to the system randomly. Not a good system at all. I then tried the Motorola IHF1000, which was a new model. I liked the looks of the touchpad and thought it had nice features so I ordered straight from Motorola. When I temporarily installed it (not hiding anything) everything worked except that when an incoming call came in and I pushed the 'talk' button, it would either instantly disconnect the call or mute the call. Everything else worked fine - I could dial by number or contact name and the caller ID worked for incoming calls (a feature the Mobile-ease does not have). Thinking the unit was defective, I ordered another one from Motorola. It did the same thing. This probably has to do with the LG cell phone, but it simply doesn't work. Also, I did a test for voice quality. I called my wife using the Motorola (remember, I could call out fine, I just couldn't answer an incoming call) - the first thing she noted was that my voice sounded higher (she asked me if my underwear were too tight) and she said the 'echoes' on her end were bad. I quickly disconnected the Motorola and went back with the Mobile-ease and called her again. She said the Mobile-ease was much clearer and no echoes (although in the past she has complained about some echoing when I cal her from my truck). So I have sent everything back and I am going to try to hook the Mobile-ease up to the Eclipse.. I went full circle and decided that the Mobile-ease really has nice features and decent sound quality. Sorry for the long thread, but I just don't want another Sprint user to go thru what I did.
Thanks for the reply. I have verizon service and a motorola bluetooth phone v710. I am going to give the ihf1000 a try. Where did you mount the control center. I was thinking about mounting it between the lighter and parking sensor *****. did you simply mount the control with adhesive?
Tune2One,
Man...you're a lifesaver. I went to the Sprint store today and they told me that the IHF1000 didn't work well with the phone I was looking at (same as yours)...I may try the MobileEase system as well.
The motorola system looks really cool, but I want the damned thing to work...I'd hate to drop the $$$ and get nothing but the pain of sending it back.
Thanks again!

I recently installed the Pioneer AVIC-D1 with XM NavTraffic as well as the Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit 98500. I am using a Sprint Treo 650. So far, everything has worked flawlessly. Excellent sound quality. The Motorola uses its own speaker, but it does automatically mute the Pioneer when on a call.
I will try and get some pictures up this weekend.
