I think if you are changing your oil every 3k to 5k miles or every 6 months it really doesn't matter.

but don't quote me on that.

Can't go wrong with Motorcraft. I use Mobil 1 filters myself. My dad and grandpa have run Fram filters for as long as they've been around and haven't ever had any issues, so I don't know if fram is "bad". It's quite possible they're not as good as other brands.

It matters if the anti drain back valve collapses or filter material getsin the engine

We have had several members ask why they had a knock at startup that went away. They weere advised to put on a different filter and the problem went away. The Fram filters used a carboard anti drain back valve that can collapse, causing there to not be any oil in the upper engine at start up.

Use the search button and you should be able to find those threads. Also, there was research done on many different filters by an indepenent tester and Fram failed the tests. That report has been posted here as well.

I used to use Fram on a Dodge car and at idle it would not have any oil pressure. Switched to a Mopar filter and oil pressure. Had oil pressure with a Wix as well. So Since then never used Fram again

I used Fram for a long time until about 6 years ago. My Cigarette Boat forum had what became a 138-page thread about filters. Nobody liked Fram.

Fram filters

Been seeing quite a lot of negative posts sbout fram oil filters, have sold in my shop many of these filters over the years ....no complaints ever...but as some of the posts say the drain back valve does not work i have done this experiment..
filled the oil filter with parrafin blocked off the outlet tube put it upside down on the bench and left it for 2 days...No fluid seeped out from the inlet section
at all proving the anti-drain valve was working correctly....if it was going to leak back thin fluid like parrafin would show this up straight away.
Wonder if any of the complainers have bothered to do a test like this????

Also as some people have said the return anti drain valve is made of cardboard and filter end caps cardboard.......cut one open END caps both steel and anti-drain valve is made from a silicon type flexible material.....make one wonder does it not
