Ya it does get the job done very nicely! I actually won it in a raffle, so for it decked out in its current condition I have a total of $200 in it for stabilizer, rest, sight and the $20 raffle ticket.

Wow! You can't beat that!! That's awesome! I want to get into bow hunting to start out with. I've never went hunting at all in my life. My dad is into it but I guess I never was when I was growing up. I have his old bow - just got it all done. It's an early 1970's model Bear but still in good shape. Good beginning setup I guess. Hopefually I can take my bow safety class at some point so by next year I will be practiced up and ready to go. Then maybe I can move up to rifle hunting at some point.

I've rifled and just started to bow hunt this year and can say I like to bow hunt more than rifle. I didn't really do rifle too long (2 yrs) but the bow adds another challenge and I think it is more of a rush!

Ya its a blast, I grew up doing it so I guess I am biased. But its not bad the class is very very easy they don't try to fail you just educate you. Most instructors are very very helpful and will give you everything you need to know to pass and be successful.

Also there is a archery range about 5 min from Anderson if you do start wanting to shoot just let me know I will come out there with ya and get you shooting the 10 ring in no time.

I took one on a couple different days split up so that way it wasn't so tedious. I found them very interesting so I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought it would.

I shoot a diamond Black Ice and love it. I think it kinda depends on what you're really looking to spend. I would not go for the cheap bow but rather something you want to keep for a while. It is very addicting once you really get into it, at least it was for me.

Thanks 150 guy if any of you need help getting started just let me know I will be more then willing to meet with you and help you get to shooting good.

I love to bow hunt and I like to promote it whenever possible so if anyone is ever looking to get started let me know. Also I know another forum that is usually selling bows for a very good price compared to what your paying in the store.

I am shooting a 2010 New Breed Genetix, I am in love with that bow, I could talk to you about the techinical specs all day long but it won't help you guys out too much. I personally feel that it dominates my pse x force (paid 949 for it a year ago last month) and it is at a fraction of the cost. You can get into a brand new Genetix for $700 or find a used one going for $500 which for this bow I would gladly pay $1000!

The best advice I can give you is, don't get a cheap inexpesive bow (they are actually harder to shoot), but don't break the bank either. Just go out and shoot a ton of different bows, don't let the sales guy tell you which one you need to shoot. Just keep trying different bows, you will then find one that you just like. Get that one and take it to a professional to set up. I highly recommend Ross at Premier Archery here in town, he knows his stuff and is a great guy to deal with. If I need something Ross is my go to guy!

Also feel free to pm me if you guys do have any questions. Also it is very important you get the correct arrow spine, and have your draw length measured properly ( go to Ross, or another pro shop not cabelas or scheels) I made the mistake of going to cabelas to have mine measured they were a full 1 1/2" off, that is a mile in the bow shooting world.

60-70# is pretty standard for most bows. I have a 70 # bow and it is plenty.

I have a draw length of 28.5" and I pull 70 lbs and shoot a 480 grain arrow producing 77lbs of kinetic energy. Which all that is needed for a deer is 30-35 lbs of kinetic energy, or for an elk 60 lbs of kinetic energy.

There are bows that pull much higher weights but over all the majority of the market are going to fall between 50 to 70 lbs of pull and most are adjustable in 10 lb increments, ie 50-60,60-70, etc..

The speed the bow produces has a lot of factors, draw length, draw weight, arrow weight, brace height, and how aggressive the cam system is on the bow.

A 30lb bow can kill a deer just fine, but in Nebraska to be legal you have to pull a 50# bow or more. The biggest thing with bow hunting is shot placement, and range estimation. Those two things will be the biggest deciding factor on whether or not you will be successful.
