Hairline crack in wood trim around stereo

Strangesy thing - The trim in my 'wood that surrounds the stereo and AC developed a small crack in it. I don't think that it is temperature related, because most of the time I keep in the garage. I'll may wait and have the service guys check it out when I take it in at 5,000 miles, but that may take too long. If it really begins to bug me or gets bigger I'll take it ini sooner.

Anybody else experience this?

Interesting...

Anyone have a couple of pictures of the interior wood trim? Can anyone point me to a few?

I'm interested in dropping the wood trim in my King Ranch but, I'm unsure on how it's going to look with the Chestnut exterior and thus, I'm debating on 'how much wood' to actually think about using inside in the cab.

Also, the wood grain kits that are in the blackwoods, is it a TOTAL replacement for the parts that have the wood or is it a 'stick on' type kit that Ford/Lincoln applied?

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks guys.

RockPick:

Here's my best shot at your question.

Front Cabin:
Steering wheel has wood trim on 50% of surface.
Radio console surround has wood trim
Drivers/Passenger door has wood trim around switch modules.
There is a roughly 8" spear moulding piece above glove box.
Both doors have a roughly 8-10" spear moulding.

Rear Cabin:
Same door mouldings as front doors.

As a point of interest, the Wood has the 02 Gator dash which may or may not be the same as your KR version.

The wood seems to be about the same as the Wenge Wood that is featured on the bed but it is hard for me to tell with all the reflections and shadows in the cab. It does appear to me to be rather plasticy in appearance and not as nice as Pat's wood trim in her 02 Continental. Personal opinion only and remember the Wenge wood is very dark.

Other observations:

I realize I am being picky and this has nothing to do with your KR truck, but I am a bit surprised at what I would consider a half assed job of deciding where to put wood accents on a $55,000 vehicle

The surround on the $2,500 navigation system is black plastic as is the surround on the upper console (behind the inside rear view mirror). As well the surrounds on the rear seat stereo/AC controls are a cheap looking black plastic materiel.

Bearing in mind that the KR has a more Chestnut/Oak sort of coloring, you may be well advised to search the various trucking magazines classified sections for the many, many wood accent kits that are on offer. In my case, I am sort of looking for some generic "you cut and fit" materiels that may match the Wenge wood to complete the items listed above that I feel will complete the trimming out of my Wood.

Keep us informed as to how you may proceed.

Rock Pick,

Took this pictures this morning will give the address so you can look at them. Like Bill said the trim is dark and don't show up to good. The one of the driver's door has a lot of sun on it.
Hope this helps.
Jim

Bill, Jim:

Thanks you guys. I sincerely appreciate your help and insight. The photos were excellent Jim.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with the wood or if I'm going to do anything at all.

There are simply so many mods that I'd like to do that it's scary... scary mainly from a financial standpoint. Geesh. I could sink another 10K at the drop of a hat into this thing on mods that I'd like to do. You all know how it is...

Again, thanks. I really appreciate it!
