Idle surge

Sometimes my Blackwood truck makes the headlights alternate bright and dim when sitting still like at a light. The tach goes up and down too. Any idea what causes it?

Mine use to do that on occassion. He did some work on it and it hasn't done it sense. Of course he's not here now so I can't find out what he figured out the culpret to be. But once I do, I'll let you know. I do know that my battery was fine.

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps you'd actually get some competent & decent help, and certainly more exposure, if you posted these questions in the Engines forums?

Inbreeding and Isolationism is BAD juju for anyone

The Lightning guys learned this long ago

Translation - yer NOT that special or unique, so time to dissolve the silly clique and go forth into the Brave New World ....

If yer reaction to this is trending towards 'butt-hurt', then please .. stay where y'all are - we don't need any more chilluns...

wow really???? so name calling and putting down people for asking a specific question on a specific vehicle that other owners of said specific vehicles may have experienced is looked down on???????

from the guy that owns a Lightning, a Lincoln Blackwood and a 5.4L excursion with several other mod motor vehicles that we previously owned.

LMAO !!!

What name-calling, skip? Do you have a comprehension problem, and are yo so insecure that you feel the need to rattle off yer fleet? You'd chit if I did the same for mine, lol.

Did you happen to miss the smiley faces?

It worked, evidently - I got a cogent response.

The mill is NOT that unique - and you know it.... however much you wish to to be otherwise ...

Time & time again I see y'all flounder about looking for answers within, and not receiving any - where a simple query to the folks at large could easily help you ...

Cliques are overrated, and further, have long overstayed their usefulness - and are a blight upon society in general.

So sad .... lol. Enjoy yer 'special' (to you) trucks

Keep that Reality Distortion Field powered up! LMAO !!!

And try to resist the urge to Report this post as long as y'all can

Ok - enough BS'in, bud ....Seriously - yer taking me FAR too seriously! Relax - had you asked me I would have been among the FIRST to help y'all!

Cheers & regards;
MGD

1st of all i dont know you and you dont know me. and i could care less of your use of smileys. you came off like an ******* and i was simply stating that i have worked on/owned both of the "said vehicles" you called out. and yes a 5.4 4valve was used in the navigator as well as the blackwood. i have not been on this site for quite a while. and i do believe my wife has giving Jim a definitive answer to his issue. what advice did you offer????? oh thats right you didn't. and yes i realize there may be another sub-forum that he may have found his answer in as well.

Sweet fancy Moses, Papa Blackwood! Y'all REALLY don't get out much, do ya? If'n ya got outta the forum dedicated to the elite Blackwood, you'd know good ol' MGD has what is called a 'sense of humor'.

You'd also know that there's a whole other 'class' of folks 'round these parts that ain't fortunate enough to own sich a fine piece of machinery as the illustrious, supreme Blackwood.

In spite of the horrible hand that cruel fate has dealt them, some of them have managed to find ways to become functioning members of their society. Obviously, their society ain't high-fallutin' like The Blackwood Society is, and many of its members struggle with what the other half considers to be menial tasks such as:

Stringing together and relating coherent thoughts, breathing through their nostrils, reading without mouthing the words with their lips, and keeping their knuckles off the ground.

As sad as this seems, all hope is NOT lost. Well...not lost for ALL of them, at least. Believe it or not, some of them have beaten what would seem to be insurmountable odds and have acquired a modicum of knowledge of topics such as NASCAR, potato cannons, chewin' 'baccer, billy goats, lighting farts, and yes, even pick-em-up trucks.

I believe what MGD was communicating, in a way only he can, is that it's possible that there might be a member of the more plentiful, yet, less glorious nether-society that, if presented the honor of receiving the patronage of an elite member of the uber-society, MIGHT be able to offer a humble word of advice. Well, one of the sharper members might be able to do so...you understand.

Thank you for your time and understanding in this matter.

I was re-reading your post...

The glitch its electrical only, or when the tach surges the engine does the same?

All y'all trolls just take your click and get outa here. Nobody asked you. Well actually, I did and you were no help at all. Kept talking about retarded stuff that isn't even on my truck. If you don't know the motor you can't help. Bunch a knuckle draggers anyway. What makes you think you can come in here and do anything you want? Lord knows you never made the first attempt to help. So just go on back to your scummy pond with your low life friends and their cheap *** motors and leave the high tech stuff to people who own them.

The IAC is probably worth trying. I'll give it a shot first chance I get. I don't think the problem is electrical but it's really hard to say one way or the other. The mileage is down also, to about 12 in town.

Yo Jim.

It's 'clique', not 'click'. Just fyi.

And, sorry to dispel your illusion, but this specific forum is not your personal property, so I may post in it as much as I like - I don't require your permission, or blessing; the corollary also applies to yall, which was my original post's intent to convey, lol. If I do choose to stay out, it will be entirely at my discretion and the simple desire to avoid some of the 10 year old adult histrionics resident here.

FYI - 3V's don't have IAC, because they are not needed and it's obsolete technology. The ETC does all that via a far more sophisticated PCM. So - by extension, no EGR, no DPFE, or other ancient nonsense.

So - in point of fact, it's yer motor that is rather low tech. Don't let this pesky fact unduly disturb your personal reality distortion field.

Oh - BTW - Did I mention, the lowly "low-tech" 3V's produce better torque numbers as well? How utterly inconvienient is that?!?

Also just FYI - Don't clean an IAC - it seldom recovers fully or for long. Replacement is the best course of action. Clean the TB and MAF as well, while yer at it. I'm presuming you DO know haw to do that?

Lastly - you'd be surprised the degrees us simple 'knuckledraggers' possess.

You, Jim, represent the WORST that Humanity has to offer - venal, banal, intolerant, ignorant, provincial, humourless, and just plain myopic. For starters.

There is more, but - in all honesty, yer beginning to bore me. And I do not bore easily. I'm still here, aren't I?

Enjoy yer 'Special' historic truck. I dare say even IT deserves a more resilient and worldly owner than YOU appear to be.

Finally - IF you STILL take this in all seriousness, I just do NOT know what else to say. I WELCOME your candid response - BUT - only if it is rational. Any frothing about the mouth is going to be - foregive me - construed as contra-indiciative of a reasoned, cogent response.

Very best Personal regards;

MGD
