Another Lincoln Model to add to my Scalp belt
Update...Decisions-Decisions
Evening Nico and others:
I had to turn in my 92 Town Car to the dealer for some major air suspension service and I talked them out of an 05 Aviator for a loaner for several days.
Pat seems quite happy with our new Navigator, absenting it is huge and hard to park, but she likes the electric folding 3d row seats, the electric decklid and the ROOM.
When I leased the Gator, our deal was that if she did not like it, I would take it over when my Blackwood came off lease and she could get something else. I have the feeling she is not going to give it up, so I have to find something. Here and elsewhere, I have lusted after a Cobra, a Marauder and a few other such vehicles but the Mustang would not be practical and I have a creampuff 92 Town Car for a sedan with less than 55k miles on her.
So, looking at an SUV again and I didn't think we needed two Navigators.
Anyway, got the Aviator and put it through it's paces in town, on the Interstate, in the parking lot, loaded it with my usual stuff and I may have made a decision.
As you all know, it is sort of a "Honey I shrunk the kids" version of the Navigator but it still fits me very well as far as the driving/driver dynamics are concerned. The cargo capacity is fine with the third row seats folded down and I can fold them with no effort faster than Pat's Navigator can do it with the electric thingie. I think you give up about 25% of the total cargo capacity in the Aviator versus the Navigator.
I think what is selling me is the responsiveness of the DOHC motor, which I know and love based on Pat's two Continentals and my Blackwood. Whether 4.6 or 5.4 litre, when those motors get on the cams, they sing. I was very impressed with not only the standing start power of the Aviator but also the mid range power and passing power as long as you are at close to 2500 rpm or better. I loved my Lightning, but it took a blower to wake up that 2 valver and our Navigator is very torquey but not very exciting on the "seat of the pants" scale of things.
Now, let's see, a chip, a filter, maybe an exhaust hmmmm. could get interesting.
