Please be careful when...

Sorry to trick you into reading a PSA, but please read this:

Police are still investigating the massive crash along Interstate 95 that killed five people and left three others hurt early Saturday morning. State Police say they know how the accident happened but don't know why. Those who worked the deadly chain reaction crash say it was one of the worst they've ever seen. State Police say 26-year-old Sudie Waddell of Henrico was driving the wrong way on northbound Interstate 95 just north of Willis Road. She slammed head-on into 31-year-old William Aycox of Petersburg. Both drivers were killed.

Other drivers stopped to help. Police say a tractor trailer driver was coming over the hill, didn't see the crash in time to brake and collided with the stopped cars and the other wreckage. 40-year-old Sheila Cauthen and 54-year-old Dorothy Wright, both of Charlotte, were killed, along with 31-year-old Cheryl Davidson, a nurse who was trying to help the victims of the first crash.

Three other people were also hurt in the crash, including the tractor trailer driver. Police say they're investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the original crash.
That girl that caused this accident was a friend of mine. I attended her funeral on Thursday. She was a good person and she had a beautiful 4 year old son, but she made a stupid decision. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but she was driving drunk, got confused or spun out in the snow or who knows how, but she was driving the wrong direction on I-95 here in Richmond. She hit an oncoming motorist head on, both were killed instantly and when 4 other cars and trucks pulled over to help, an 18wheeler with tandem trailers came over the hill and couldn't stop in time, jack-knifed and plowed through all of them.

5 people are dead because one person decided to drink and drive.

The holidays are coming up and lots of parties and events for New Years and Christmas are planned so Please Be Careful! WEAR YOUR SEATBELT and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!

anyway thats all I had to say. sorry if this is a downer, but I just wanted to share. sometimes you take life for granted, but you never really never know whats coming over that next hill or around that next corner. so take care and let your loved ones how you feel about them.

sincerely,
chris

Very timely, Chris.

Timely and a good point to bring up this time of year.

I still drink, too much methinks, but I quit drinking and driving together over 10 years ago. No big conversion, just saw too much of what you posted on TV, in the papers and a few in person.

It scares me to death to see people come into my store for Christmas shopping after the company office party or whatever who are obviously into their cups a fair bit. Not enough to call the police, but about one/two drinks away from that. And, we have three popular restaurants/bars within walking distance of the store and I always fear they will stop off for another one or two. I know I did many more times than I should have.

Hope everyone has a very safe and happy holiday.
Bill

Chris,
Sorry you lost a friend in that nightmare of an accident.
Once in a while we need reminding, we never want it to be a friend or family member that had to die, to remind us. I'm sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to the children, family and friends of all lost in that accident.

Chris,

Sorry for you loss man. I have been through the same things. It was sad to see people get killed for trying to help as well. But it happens, wrong place at the wrong time. VA has alot of history for Drunk Driver wrecks. I guess we all party to much.....

Thats a damn shame. Being an ex cop myself, i have seen far to many DUI's turn deadly. Generally though, the drunk ends up living. I myself was a victim of a DUI back in 1997 when a drunk driver hit me head on on Hwy 68. The only casualty was my 1996 Mystic Cobra with 478 hp. I walked away from it without a scratch. I still miss that car today.

Everyone be careful.

Sorry for your loss bro, but just think of the life her son has now because she made a dumb decision. I myself have made plenty of DUMB decisions in my life, but was lucky. As Bill said, as you get older, you think more of the results of dumb mistakes.
Truely very tragic

Recently?? I see one at least twice a week going to or coming home from work. Its to the point that I dread driving in this area anymore.

superfords, sorry to hear about your loss, I too have lost 2 people that I knew due to alcohol and driving.

I know this is a SERIOUSLY old thread, but I've had Sudie on the brain tonight for some reason. I knew her in high school and the accident rocked our little town; people still remember it. I don't know why I'm posting. I've just been thinking about her.

As much as it hurts to remember it's important to "always remember" our passed Family + Friends. One of the best parts about our memory is at any giving time you can close your eyes relax and bring up a picture as brite as day of any lost Family or Friend, (no matter how long ago it was).
I still do it to see a passed relative or maybe a childhood friend, works everytime and the faces never fade

Sorry to hear she's on your mind but glad all the same

First off let me say that I am sorry for the loss in your community. It was a tragedy and a huge mistake on her part. A tragedy that has probably touched many more lives than we can ever imagine.

With that being said, my tolerance for the individuals making these decisions are probably a little less than the average person. I see this almost every day. I am a flight Paramedic on an EMS helicopter. We are usually called on the worst accidents in our region. These kind of accidents happen quiet often. Christmas night, a head on that killed a father, mother, 3 year old little boy, a 10 year old little girl and left the only survivor (11 year old girl) confined to bed for the rest of her life.....An entire family, gone. Last year about the same time a family out looking at christmas lights, mother, father, 3 children and a child that was a family friend crossed in front of a train and killed everyone, another family gone. I see it every day and often thank God for my blessings as so many have to live on after these accidents....My thoughts always go out to the survivors, the families...

We all have different jobs, goals, and things that we consider important. My truck is a hobby, I get carried away sometimes and tend to forget that my plugs, oil seperator or what ever the case may be is not really that big of a deal. My world is pretty small but I do realize that just because I dont see it in the national news or local paper, these tragedies occur almost every day.You dont think about it but, each time you leave your family it could be the last time you see them....That makes you think about how you spend your time with them.

I occasionally get lost in the hobby of keeping my truck running good and getting faster....Reality always has a way of bringing me back after a long shift at work. Most people dont get that kind of reality check on a regular basis so I think I am pretty fortunate.

Again, sorry for your loss. I pray for the families that this tragedy will affect for the rest of their lives....

Four years ago, this thread was off topic.

Now, it's off topic and old. The mods should kill it.
