this really depends on your outlook on life. me im an all out guy, so if there was anychance of me ever walking again i would definitly take it, i just dont know if i could handle being in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. but if you can live with what you were dealt and you could be potentially happy already then why risk it...either way you decide, i really wish the best of luck to you...only you can make that decision. remember, there are no wrong decisions in life, only regret.

Pat,

The thought of this operation has already caused you sleepless nights my friend. It seems to me if they're saying your a good candidate then there's only one thing you can do, GO FOR IT PAT.
I think I know you good enough by now to know, if you don't, you'll always punish yourself for not trying it and wondering, WHAT IF ???

Pat, you know I'm behind you 100% no matter what your decision. I say go for it as long as your Doctors tell you IT'S SAFE with your heart and blood clot condition.

Keep us up to date on your decision
Rob

Pat,

I have read all the previous posts in answer to your need for guidance in making this decision. It is touching that the support for your wellness is so abundant. In times of need we always turn to those people we trust and love for support and inspiration. In our worldliness, many of us miss the most influential power of all...the Almighty power. Belief, faith and trust in this power should not be an escape for you, but the answer to your questions as to what to do. In the Word you will find the courage, and the strength of heart to live. Indecisions will fall by your side and your direction will become clear.

Matthew 9:28-30

And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

And their eyes were opened.

God Bless,

Rich B.

Pat,

Listen to the experts and make your decision, they know your body better than you do. It's amazing what doctor's can do now. Whatever decision you make, rest assured that everybody on this forum is pulling for you and a full recovery.

Pat,
I am not sure that I can add much more to what has been posted. You need to pray about this and talk to others.. let the lord tell you what to do.
In regard to going through another operation. Time heals all wounds. While the immediate post operative period is hard, it will be forgotten with the days, weeks and months that follow. However, one cannot give up the fight to get back the ability to walk again..
Keep fighting the good fight my friend.. and walk with the Lord.

Dana

I would speak to as many professionals as you can, read all that you can about it, and do not make any decisions in haste. Take your time, you aren't losing anything by waiting a little while.

Pat,
One way to manage risk is through learning. Sounds to me like you have some time to learn how the other guy progresses while you learn more about the surgery and how to work on your recovery so that you'll be in the best condition, mentally and physically when you decide to go under the knife again.

Hey Pat-
Keep your head up man! My advice:wait a little while, then go for it. I would have the surgury done while your still young so your body can adjust better. Let your heart guide you--stop and listen. You can sometimes hear God speaking to you. He has always been with you, and had a plan for you even before you were conceived, and he will be beside you, ready at a moments notice to provide guidance and comfort, forever. He was carrying you through this terrible ordeal, and he will continue to carry you until you are healed. Have faith and listen to Him, and everything will turn out alright.
We're all behind you no matter what!!

What ever you decide I wish you all the best.

My opinion on this is, if you do decide to undergo the new procedure I would say do it as soon as possible. My thinking is that the sooner you do it, you will have a higher percent of nerve recovery.

Good luck and I wish you all the best

Don

I know nothing about the surgery itself. I do know that I have watched my dad go through about 10 surgeries. He fell off of the roof when I was 3, though he is not paralyzed, he does live with cronic pain.

As far as the anesthesia, there are different chemicals that do this. Once dad got a dose of what they used back in WWII, which really doesn't fully wear off for about a year. It is nasty stuff.

I would say that it would be worth a try. You might want to wait about 3 mos and see how the other guy is doing. And was he the first that this operation was performed on? IF not what were the successes of the others.

Good luck, and God Bless.

mblgjr,

10 SURGERYS!!!!!!

I can' t stand the thought of two let alone 10. I was once helping one of my old bosses hang Christmas Lights about 6 Years ago. Well, he was a big englishman who alot like myself is quite clumsy, It was a year of alot of snow and he fell off and landed in a huge snow drift. Although not hurt, I will say one thing he looked like a upside down turtle.
Last year in my previous residence I was hanging christmas lights and the roof was a metal roof. So, you can imagine were my destination was, The ground. Nope, got saved by a treebranch. There is a advantage to being lazy around the yard it will save your life someday

I'd do anything I could to pick up even partial feeling below the waist... of course, many people say I think too much with the wrong head!:o

Best of luck either way.
