HELP!! Exhaust Questions ~(JDM)~

I was really looking into the JDM Silver bullet exhaust system, but I had a few questions for all those knowledgeable about exhausts!?!?!

1) Is the Stock Lightning Exhaust using mandrel bent pipes?
2) What type of muffler does the cat back system use? (magnaflow?)
3) Borla seems to make an exhaust system for the lightning, For those who have the JDM system or Borla, TELL ME WHY WHICH ONE IS BETTER AND WHY?!?!?
4) Is the silver bullet going to be legal here in CA, with whatever sound ordinances CA has?
5) Any HP gains/losses with it??

Thanks so much guys, I REALLY appreciate the help!

1) Don't know if its mandrel bent but it is smooth throughout the bend with only a little loss in roundness.
2)Magnafow
3)Only you can decide that
4)I don't see why not.You can get diffent mufflers for different sounds.
5)Exhaust alone, A little.add a sticker then 40 rwhp

yes stock system is mandrel bent, the other way is crimp bent which is crap, it has a bunch of crimps or folds where it bends, not many people use this anymore

either bassani or silver bullet. both sound awesome....

not to hijack this thread but if i end up getting a catback for SOUND only i'm going bassani....

i've heard many good things about the silver bullet but not as much over the borla. i think the silver bullet is a bit louder. both are high quality. between borla and the SB, definitely the silver bullet imo!

Correct me if I am wrong...cause I may be.

1) Bassani assisted Ford in designing the muffler on the stock 01-up Lightning.

2) Unless you have a few good power adders, the stock system is hard to beat for all-around performance.

3) Considering $ for hp gain...changing the stock exhaust system is not a considered a real good return on the dollar.

Don't mean to dispute the benefits of any of the aftermarket systems... I love the way they sound.

Are the above statements correct or not?

motoxracer,

Go here and learn all you can about Bassani. http://bassani.com/home.cfm

As far as legality in California, I'm in the process of finding out the skinny of that. Knowing your area code would help in my search for the legality of Bassani in your area. I'll post here as soon as I know.

I sell Bassani catbacks and have them in stock when you're ready. Please check out the Exhaust link on my web site link below.

The rest makes sense to me.

If you like LOUD, go with JDM silver bullet catback. I really like it, easy to install, it is just tough to get the stocker off.

But, it is your choice......

The long tubes will give you more HP as you increase the mods the rest is for sound. But you have to do something with the rest of the system because of the length of the LT in relation to the cats.As for CA emissions I posted else where how to get around that since I am pretty sure that the LT are not CARB cert.Stan

This is the answer I got from Bassani on the legality issue in California. If I can help, just let me know.

Thanks,

Tim
---------------------

Good morning Tim,

Yes, the aft cat system for the Lightning is street legal in California. The headers and the cat pipe are NOT street legal.

If you are the type to put "only the best" on your
truck, use the Bassani ...
