just wondering...

...if anyone else here runs their heater with the engine off while at the track to kool down the engine? i thought of it the other day at the track, and my truck kooled down much faster. also, after sitting for a while it started blowing colder air, so i started it for a second then shut it back off to cool more of the fluid. it worked really well. just put the key in the "on" position without starting the engine.

i thought "hey, im a genius" and i was thinking how many other genius' were out there.

BTW: WHOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO 1000 posts baby!

I ran the heater last time i was at the track just to keep me warm, so I guess I was cooling the truck too.

That's an old trick that I learned a long time ago. It can also save you from overheating an eng. if you're caught in a traffic backup. I'd rather be hot and maybe save the eng.

And for all you snow-bound yankees, don't forget to run the air conditioning every week or so to keep the seals lubed .

For many years (at least 15), US automakers have made the "heater" cycle the A/C compressor every once in a while for just that purpose. I haven't checked the L, but I assume Ford still does it. Speed tip - to the best of my knowledge, Vent (Panel) is the only A/C - Heat selection (other than Off) that will not cycle or otherwise turn on the A/C compressor.

i also believe that the "panel" position is the only one that will run the heat/cool without the compressor running...chris
