Bone stock

What did everyone’s truck run like bone stock?? My truck that is still stock for now and will burn the tires off for maybe 12 foot, depending on the type of pavement. I drove another 02 L that was stock and it would burn them off through 1st and into 2nd. I’m just wondering if mine is a dog or not? I haven’t got it to the track yet but it makes me wonder. Would anyone elses go through 1st and 2nd like that? That was really cool by the way.

When mine was stock it would only spin them for a short distance, then hook and go. Likely have a better 60 foot time stock than modded, as now I can smoke the tires up into 3rd gear, but hooking at the track is a pain (or was, new drag radials today, whoohoo!).

My 2000 ran 14.4 with a 2.3 60' on F1s.

Thumbs up Your truck is not a dog

Stock it will probably run high 13's. SVT did an incredible job with these trucks!!! That sir, is fast!!! Weather, road suface, and many other things will factor into your spinning of the tires while TOTALLY stock. Add a chip and pulley and some unrestricted cool air to the Eaton........YOU WILL NOT BELEIVE THE DIFFERENCE!!! These Lightnings are monsters!!! God these are wonderful machines!!!

Mine (ours, the wife is watching) is bone stock with 34,000 miles. I drive at altitudes above 5000' most of the time around home. It runs very good. Go to Las Vegas at around 2000', and I steer with the throttle. It's scary and wants to swap ends real easily, and even likes to get very loose at the top end of 2nd. gear. It's great when it's around 60-65 degrees down there. Any temps below 60, and there is no hope for traction. It is a good thing that I don't live at that altitude, or I have a feeling that I would've looped her a few times.

After about 3500 miles my 02 would burn thought first and hit 2nd and die out and hit 1st hard again and go.
But like you said on certain roads.
I could always rip the tires in first for about 25-30 ft.

Now w/ a lower pully, chip, and full exhaust, I can melt them down pretty fast

Heh... with the mods I have, I can mat it smooth and hard, and the tires start spinning. I can smoke the tires as far as I can keep it straight on the road... with the FT valve body it just keeps spinning through the 2nd gear shift, then into the 3rd shift. By then my speedo is showing somewhere north of 80mph, with real speed somewhere around 35-40. By then the tail has started to wag a bit, and I have to get out of it.

Thats why I have roasted two sets of F1s with only 14K miles on the truck... its just too damn fun. I had a Tundra V8 think he was winning from a light... till he noticed I was just annihilating the tires for fun beside him to keep side by side...

Trying the drag radials now, kinda neat to just hook and scoot...

Every stock Lightning I have seen run have been pretty close in 1/4 mile times. The difference is usally in the driver. My 99 ran a 13.7 stock and my 01 ran a 13.3. Both were in cool weather.

700 miles on the odometer. Everything stock right down to the engine oil. Temps in the 60's.

13.7 @ 99-100mph w/ 1.9 60's

I asked the same question, 69stangscj. Many responded--"just wait until 5,000 miles or so--the engine will break in and the tires will spin more."

Well, I now have 7,000 miles and in fact the tires do spin way more. I have determined that this has less to do with the engine breaking in and more to do with the tires wearing down. The 1/4 trap speed is unchanged, so the engine is not making more HP. The F1's have a super-sticky outer layer, which is less grippy as it wears down.

Goodyear is not the only company to make tires that have progressively less grip as the tire wears. Maybe it is to wow reviewers and test drivers, but not have ridiculously short tread life.

At any rate, my truck will boil the tires at will now on most surfaces, whereas brand new I could barely get them to spin. Since the tires are right at the limit of adhesion, it shouldn't take too much in the way of mods to make even brand new F1's boil at will.
