Question What size 4 channel amp will fit under the passenger seat?

Hey Guys,

I'm having a space problem with putting a stereo in my truck.

Looks like I'm going to run either one JLW0 or JLW3 in a sealed box behind the passenger seat. I didn't want the passengers to lose to much leg room, A JLW6 will take up another 2 inches of depth.

Problem is, If I spend the money for some 6.5 2 way components Focals or MB Quarts up front, I need a amp with 100W or better to drive the fronts and want decent power to drive the sub. I know the W0 takes less power, that's why I might go with it. I know there are some with lots of power to use, but I want to use a clean and efficient amp. I prefer to use the W3, but want to make sure I have enough power to make it sound great.

Should I go with some chaeper speakers all the way around, like the Infinity Kappas 2 way up front and coaxial in the rears. Some speakers that will match a smaller power amp. They take less power to drive.

What size 4 channel amp with the most power will fit under the passenger seat? I plan on using it as a 3 channel. Head unit to power 5x7's in the rears. I can't put anything behind the drivers seat or drivers seat wall. Got my NxExpress bottle there, OK cat's out of the bag.. lol

1) What I need to know is, what is the biggest size amp I can use under the passenger seat.
2) What is the best speaker combo that will work with the amp I put under the drivers seat since my space is limited?

Thanks for your help,
DL

If you relocate the jack into the bed of the truck, you can fit at a amp at least 11x12 under there. I know My ADS 6 Channel amp fits, and those are it's measurements.

I am in the process of building a box that will fit 2 6.5 inch JL WO's but I need to get my truck back first.

I don't see why y'all are having such problems. I fit two JBL 1200.1s, two 10L7s and a PPI amp.

Hey EvilGuy,

It looks great, you did a professional install. I bet your system kicks a$$, just a little to much stuff for me. I'm trying to hide my stereo stuff. I can't put a box all the way across, just half way across the back.

Thanks Don, I haven't taken the passenger seat out yet to measure. No spare tire, so I don't need the jack, lol ..
I got AAA or FORD.

I put an MTX Thunder6500D mono-block sub amp under my passenger seat and a Thunder4244 4-channel amp under my passenger seat. I was able to keep my jack; although I had to take the crowbar out of the bracket. I also only lost about an inch of rear travel on my driver's seat but lost no downward travel. My passenger seat adjustment was not affected at all. BTW, both of these amps are 11.5"x 9.75" x 2.1".

HTH,
Edward

Edward,

You talking about the bar that runs under the seat to the middle seat or the gold piece of metal holding the jack assembly under the seat ?? Possibility of you posting some pictures or sending them to me by E-mail?? Thanks

DL,

The bar that I had to remove is the crowbar/lugwrench tool that snaps into the plastic jack holder. The holder itself and the jack fit just fine. I also attached my changer to the seat frame with some brackets I made out of 2"x2" angled aluminum. I'll shoot some pix tomorrow and post them.

Just a thought for you DL......I've been looking into a stereo upgrade and thought I didn't like the MBs until I heard them again. Of course they played the mega-buck version of the seperates (they know me by my first name at this place). I'm going to ditch the rear speakers and they are going to make some custom kick panels to hold the tweet and a 4" mid-bass. they are going to put the 6.5" speaker in the stock door panel location. I'm thinking a true 3-way should sound pretty good.

I need to check out the focals before I make a decision.

When I had my L, I did a RF Power series amp under the passenger seat. I forget the model number now, but it was the 100x4 model.

Thanks Guys,

I'm leaning towards the 2 way MB Quarts in the door. Was thinking about the kick panels, but changed my mind.

NeedFourSpeed, you should have a kick a$$ system with the 3 way's. After thinking about it the last few weeks, I may do a good system and save some $$$, instead of a really kick a$$ system. Anything is better than the stock system.

Sorry it took me a litte while to respond, went to the PRI (Performance Racing Industries) show in Indianapolis, IN this weekend. It's like being a kid in a candy store for racers..If you ever get a chance to go, Do it...
