oil change...6 quarts right??

i brought a case of mobil1 5w30 with me to get my oil changed at the dealership. they told me i need SEVEN??? they put the 6 (from the case) quarts in but told me i needed to add one more.

i always thought it was 6...even heard 5.5 to alleviate the oil in intake boot/tb problem....

so...it is 6 right?

When I changed mine (oil/filter) in October it took 5.5 at change time. Just added the additional .5 quart last week. DON'T over fill it. I'm sure the pros will jump in here any second with more to say.

Good Luck,

Dan

Maybe thats where the oil in the intake problem originated

Some jiffy lube guy told my friend with a 3.0 Ranger that he needed 6.5 quarts. I guess he was thinking of the 5.4......

somebody at dealer doesn't know squat

"supposed" to be 6...

5.5 = less oil in SC

on mine this put's it at the "min" level on dipstick (and I keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't go any lower) dips sticks aren't known for their accuracy - best to put measured amounts of oil into motor, run motor to circulate, then check to see where level falls on "your" dipstick.

oil amounts

the service manual and owners guide both say 6 quarts. I have found that 6.2 quarts puts the level in the middle of the cross hatched area of the stick. I have changed oil on literally hundreds of modular truck engines and have not found one that differs from this. So you should be fine with 6 quarts. Make sure to use a motorcraft filter 820s so the oil does not drain back after the engine is shut off or at least one with an anti-drainback valve.
