headers?

im really debating on what headers to get, shorties or long tubes. what are the main differences? shorties are cheaper and i could puttem on myself and i could keep my cutouts (i love the sound!) or i could get the long tubes, get rid of my cutouts, and spend the extra money. what are the main perf differences are the long tubes really that much better? what about sound?

Obligatory point to the search button.

Now that that's taken care of:

shorties get you VERY minimal performance. Long tubes get varied performance, but is seems about 10hp. Neither are worth the cost for performance alone.

Long tubes sound MEAN. They are loud and people really look to see what's coming.

Coldie's right from what I've read, until you do some mods (especially increased boost). Then the long tubes really pay off. I think that the shorty headers are more for California folks that have more stringent emissions testing, but want headers (just my opinion).

Blueballs(Mike) has an 02 with a chip and filter and slicks and bars(no pulley). He ran a 12.75. He put the full Long tube exhaust and ran a 12.62(again with no pulley). This was done one week apart.

I run an 8# pulley and I picked up 2 tenths with the long tubes.
Some people say they do not work.I disagree.
