Is my Johnny Lightning filter defective, just poorly designed, or ?
Issues with filter fitment
Just got a Johnny Lightning ram air today. But the filter does not fit right.
With the filter shoved down all the way, it still protrudes above the edge of the filter box and is not seated properly on the mounting flange:
If I tried to attach the lid, I would have to smash the filter down. And it still would not be properly seated on the flange.
With the filter properly seated on the flange, the filter protrudes way over the edge of the box:
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something?
The fit and finish is great, and the setup looks really trick, but the filter fit is troubling.

Don't forget to tuck the filter into the little slot at the bottom of the box. It inserts right in and then you slide it over the tube. If there is a problem, give him a ring and he'll send you another right out. JLP: 717-786-4670.

It's really not as hard as you're making it seem. Disconnect the filter. Put the filter into the box on the side that faces the fender FIRST. There's then PLENTY of room to slide it onto the intake pipe.
All I know is - mine fit great, with the cover installed.

The above photos show the only two ways the filter will fit. Period.
Thanks anyway, though.
Here are a couple of photos showing the other end of the filter in both positions:
Even if I were willing to live with the loose mounting position with the filter end tucked in, the lid will still not fit.

It's not a big deal and I have no intent to flame JLP. If the problem is solved, JLP will have gotten much free advertising, both from this post and from my Web site. If I were trying to start trouble for JLP, I know much better ways.
One of the vendors around here gave me ****-poor customer service and sold me a product which would not work on my application. To the best of my recollection, I have never mentioned the problem here. My post was not designed to vent, but to solicit information which might be useful in further defining or solving the problem.
I've got the JL intake and it fits snug but its fine. I dont think the filter goes flush up against the side where the flange is, but i dont see whats wrong as long as its tight. Its a lil harder to tell with mine since its black.
