Wierd headlight problem???
Wierd headlight problem???
Thought I'd post this, and see if any of you guys might be able to shed some light on this here-
A couple of weeks ago, I started my L up, the auto lights came on, and the drivers side headlight was out, but the passenger side was still burning...high beam indicator was on.
Flicked the high beam switch, and the passenger side slowly "dimmed" and the drivers side slowly came on, however, it too seemed dim. Sooo, I thought to myself that I just had a burned bulb or something. Killed the engine, went out and played around with the wiring a bit, just to make sure nothing was loose, started her up again, and both came on this time no problem. GREAT!
Fast forward 2 weeks. 2 days ago, same thing happened again. Got out, played with the wiring again, but this time, no luck...never came back on. So in an effort to isolate the issue, I flip flopped the two bulbs. Now, both my low beams work, but my drivers side high beam is out...ARGHHH!!!
Any ideas? I'm thinking it could still be just the high beam out on my drivers side (old passenger side), but can't understand why the low beam was ever out to begin with if that was the case?? Why do both lows work now if only the high was out?
TIA-

I would suggest you need a new bulb, might try flipping the ground wire on the passenger side as well. If you pull the right head light out and look into the bucket, you will find a ground wire with the tab pointing outwards, flip it over and gently retighten. I did this and have done it many times and it creates a better ground for the front end loom.

Thanks for the reply, Showya. I think I'm just paranoid because it really did seem like some kind of strange grounding problem, because of the dimming- but it has to also be partly due to a bad bulb as well.
Will try to pick some up today and see.

Actually, now that I think about it, the drivers side connector did seem to have some corrosion on it...but I didn't really think about it too much because it didn't seem to affect anything...it was the standard "white-ish" build up... but the passenger side did not have it...
Ever seen that before?

Sounds as if you are talking about terminal grease which is sometimes found in the socket of the bulb?
Let me know what you figure out, I am off to bed here in Kansas City. It is only 6:45 AM and I am on vacation until Monday night

Hmm. Don't think it was terminal grease, it was more of a whiteish powdery substance...resembled old dry D cell battery leakage...LOL.
Also, it was only on the drivers side, unless someone forgot to put it on the passenger side...which I'm sure things like that never happen
