help out here, i'm concerned

ok,,, lately i've noticed a rough low idle when the truck is in park,,, I live in detroit area and its been 30 degrees outside and have had to drive my truck around due to my beater being temporarily beat for the week. I have also noticed when I give the truck some gas there is a slight exhaust type smell that gets into the cabin. Just today it sorta hit hard though. Been driving around all day when i'm almost home and decide to give it some gas just to get a feel for the truck I love one last time before I got home. Right at the WOT downshift, the truck stalls out, so I start her up again and she's fine, drive around to test it and all seems fine except the slight exhaust smell, I guess sorta a sweet type of smell. But anyways, whenever I'm at WOT the truck now stalls out at the downshift, Someone please tell me what seems to be the case, sounds to me like it could be a chip problem with the rough idle along with it. Here are my mods

factory tech valve body, factory tech 2600 stall torq converter, 20 inch rims, oil breather, jdm chip ( only one agressive type daily driven program on it,,, i agree here its not neccesarily a cold weather chip, but i've been driving very easily on the truck in the weather as it was in storage till last week) 4 pound lower boost pulley, deep tranny pan, cobra water pump, jdm electric fan type setup, denso it20 plugs, most of it only has abou 2-4K miles on it, especially the efans and torq converter which have only been in for few months now. I have noticed no pinging to my ears, and nothing from the engine sounds different, except the upper boost pulley which is getting pretty loud now,,, time for acleaining I guess. Those are all the symptoms though, please some of you doctors let me know what you think is wrong. The only other problem the truck has had in the past is I've found oil on the tranny bell housing twice before, both time I took it to the dealership and was told everything checked out ok.

Please help and give reccomendations here guys, as I said though, symptoms from tonight were that smell through the vents when I had the heater halfway on after giving it good gas to get on the freeway, then the very next time I gave it good gas i was near home from a long drive when she stalled on me.

sorry for the long post,,, i'm thinking its got to be the fuel filter, but its always good to post here to see if these symptoms could leed to other problems which you guys have encountered as well.

oh yeah,,, no check engine light on as of yet,,, thanks there, i'll check fuel filter and do iac clean tomorrow, i've been thinking the same thing there myself about the fuel filter as the high octane gas has tendency to kill the filter rather quickly, i'm just hoping that is what it is though, I hate to change the filter and test it out to see if its the case, its always scarey with a stall at WOT, especially in this cold weather where the engine is definately not used to pushing the extra boost from the cold cold air.

"Ya what Gator said"

How many miles since your last filter change Toast ???
Do yourself a Favor and "DO NOT" WOT it til you change your filter, and check the plugs. If you have a fuel delivery problem,
it can run lean and go BOOM.

Also, Check the Vacuum hose that goes by the EGR Pipe. I relocated mine as it had just about melted through.

Getting bad gas here already. My wife said her car (riveria s/c) sounded funny.
Tip in Detonation.

My IAC has stuck on me twice as far as the rough idle. Went away by itself??

Sweet smell...Back right side plug under heater hose?

I hope(for your sake) I'm not right but it seems to me that you may have a leaking head gasket. Some of our engs. have had a rough right-side head to block connection. This may be where the oil is coming from and might be why you're experincing eng. roughness???

The 5.4 has had problems w/pass side head leaking oil. It tends to "seep" down the back-side of the engine.

= leaking coolant. You may have more than leaking oil by now.

It sounds like your fuel pump could be goin' out as well. If I remember right, we have a dual pump system, and one could be shot.

When mine went out, it would idle really rough, then die as soon as I gave it gas. It actually stalled when I went to pass someone.

Check your fuel filter, and your plugs. Although, a messed up plug wouldn't cause your truck to stall under WOT.

What year is your truck? 1999 is the one with the fuel pump issues.

Well Toast swapped his fuel filter and his truck was running great.

He just called me 10 minutes ago and had some really bad news though
