Question exhaust gasket leak...

I think I may have one. Can any describe what one sounds like?

I have a noise, coming off the passenger side, at any rpm, that while it almost sounds like a ticking/valve tap, it dosn't. I -think- its getting a little louder as more time has passed, but I my crack smoking habbit might be effecting my judgement.

AutoTap shows no codes, engine readings look normal (nothing lean, nothing out of the ordinary). I did a record of a 10mph->115mph run and compared it with an old one, things look similar...

Dunno. Just sounds like a little steam engine on that side of the truck right now.

Thx,
Dan

Check the collector from the headers to the cats. If they aren't tightened properlly they do this.

If you can get underneath the truck when its running, you can run your hand a couple inches around the exhaust flanges/connectors and "feel" the leak, providing you have one

Dan, I just got my head replaced on my 2000 Lightning about 2 months ago for spark plug issue.
After about 1 month I noticed a funny noise coming from the pasanger side. I had a repair bay tech come out and listen to it. At idle you could not hear it but when it was cold and I reved it a little I could hear it as I let of the gas. The tech at my plant replaced the manifold gasket and all is well. It was leaking at the back side of the gasket. Its great to work at the Ford Engine Plant
Peace, Suavy

I've always been told that an exhaust leak usually sounds like a ticking sound. I have one on my L, and one on the GTI (both cars, go figure )

Anyway, over the winter I'm going to putting one copper gaskets for the collectors and the stock header gaskets are going back on also.

Thx guys. I'm far from being a mechanic, but I think its the beginings of an exhaust leak myself.

Pete -- when you get the part numbers for the gaskets, let me know.
