Quick/Simple Plug Question
Quick/Simple Plug Question
I went down to the local Pep Boys to get some NGKs for my stock-pullied 99L. They came up with three different models... iridium, and 2 others.
Question #1: Which one do I pick of the non-iridiums?
Question #2: TR4, TR5 or TR6 for a stock-pullied 99L?
Which ones do I order? Pep Boys here doesn't stock them. They're special order only. So, their screen shows Iridiums, V-power, and one other. Which ones do I get besides the Iridiums? I called NAPA and PepBoys. Pepboys gave up trying to get some. NAPA only offers the TR5 in Iridiums at $9 each. Part number is like TR551x. Is this what I need? This is my first time buying plugs for this truck. I went to an O'Reilley's Auto Parts on my way home today and the clerk tells me that NGK no longer makes a TR5 plug for my truck. All the offer now is their iridiums, and they are universal heat ranges... hahahah.
For those of you with NGK plugs, and stock pulleys, what plugs do you run and what is the part number?

TR6 NGK V-power after about 15,000 miles.

I just pulled the TR6s out of my truck and replaced them with Denso IT-20s. I would use the TR6 with a pulley. That still gives you a little room if you want to do something else later.

Look around Plano, your bound to find someone that carries them in stock. I bought my TR6's @ O'Reilly Autoparts. Every other place here in Tyler didnt carry them!
Denso's on the other hand.........your gonna have to order!

Ok, so when I walk in a store and say "I want some NGK TR5s for my 99L"... and they respond with "um, Iridiums have a universal heat range," should I kick em in the nuts and run, or what?
I need to know exactly what to ask for when I go to get these. I dunno if I want the iridiums. Aren't the iridiums also available in TR5? Where is everyone getting their's?

If ya want the TR5 or TR6, ask for them by those numbers, if they have more questions tell them they are the V-POWER. If they still cant figure it out, they havent a clue to whats going on. You can buy the Denso iridiums through Johnny Lightning Performance, Power Surge Performance, or Lightning Force Performance. Lightning Force is in Houston. Hope this helps.
