Dealer Let me take one home..

Hey guys. Got to take a L home today from the dealership told me to take it for the weekend its a 2001 Red one. Pretty sweet to. Let my dad drive it and now hes all siked about the supercharger so he bought a Whipple for his F350 6.8Lt V10 2WD Truck. I was looking at the HP/Torque gains on his truck and was like dang.. With the Whipple 500+ HP and 685+ Torque thats crazy should get that V10 down the road. The L is great i'll drive it around for the next couple of days see if thats the one i want. Thanks

Dustin

There is no way he is going to get 500+hp from just a whipple supercharger. If his 6.8 is like the one in my excursion it is only rated at 310 hp at the crank. If he could get the 500+hp he probably should start building himself an engine because the one he has in it won't last.

edit: I just took another look at the whipple supercharger home page and it only claims up to 50% increase. If you figure the 6.8 usually dynos at 230 hp rear wheel the most which can be gained from the whipple system according to them is going to be approximately 115 hp. 230 + 115 = 345 hp rear wheel. 300 crank + 150 gain = 450 hp crank max. I haven't seen anyone on the excursion/superduty boards having those types of gains.

Stock that truck has 300+ HP and 400+ Torque. Just scroll down on that bottom of this website you'll see a Dyno test. Oh and it also states 55% increase not 50

Acually, if were going to nitpick, it says "up to 55%"........Having seen one of these kits on a truck, as well as a dyno, I can say for certain you shouldn't bank on Wipple's advertised gains.

I'd also like to know how long the stock engine and transmission last. Especially due to the high weight of those trucks. Here is a story from one of the boards this May,"I installed a Whipple Supercharger on my Excursion about a month ago. It was going great with no issues what-so-ever. That is until last weekend (Labor Day). As I was heading down the freeway I heard a nasty little noise and then lots of smoke out the back. Yup, threw a rod. 13000 miles on the engine. Ford says they wont back warranty due to the blower. I've towed it to a shop and I'll hear more soon."

Please email me a dyno sheet as soon as possible. The only one I have seen is that one on whipples site you linked to.

Good Luck!

edit: For the guys that think I'm hating on whipple- the guys with the KB for the V-10 haven't seen the gains either.

DaveRed99,

Was it a new one at ford? Cause im sure ford dealership would never let you take one home. But at a smaller used lot in springfield they get alot of used L's and Cobras. I've bought 3 Cars from him and my dads bought 5 so he's pretty cool with it. sorry man. Anyway time to go out and have some fun

shouldnt be that big of a deal, its just a truck. When i traded mine in at our dealsership, they lent it out to a few people before they sold it. Our loaner explorers are worth more than a 01 lightning.
