It's not unusual for dealers to "loan out" cars to potential buyers, and it has nothing to do with having a relationship with the dealer or the owner. here in California many dealers use a form they refer to as a BCA or Borrowed Car Agreement. However before you take the car, they will run your credit, photocpy your insurance card and drivers license. Some won't, but most do. If the vehicle sustains ANY damage, you are totally responsible.

Since were talking about a used lot in this instance, the car most likely was picked up at auction, or is a trade-in from an associated lot. In either case, it's a thrasher, which is why I would never buy a used Lightning or any other performance-based vehicle.

It's not exactly a Small used car lot its a chain of them they own. Most of there vechicals are top notch running cars and trucks and are always show room quality. Some dealers will let you take one home if your responsible and going to purchase but most dealers wont let a 21 year old kid take a L off there lot. **** most of them wont even let you test drive them without someone in the car/truck with you. Far as relationship having anything yea I think it does count. My dad just recently bought a 1997 TransAm from them mint condition he went to take it back to think about it. The owner we knew let him take it home agian for another week. week that is name a dealer that would do that lol. Anyway i'm pretty picky on the things that I buy so I know when they have been rodded to hell or is not worth buying but this L looks like it came off the Ford Showroom floor. Infact it was even sitting in there showroom floor on the used car dealer. The smaller type used car dealers I would not buy from but this guy sales Porsche, BMW, Cobras alot of the higher grade cars his dealer has a A+ in my book.

Dustin
I would imagine that Missouri is alot differnt then California for there used car lots. It's a small town and theres not to many punk kids around this area lol

Lewis Ford. Last I checked they had 1 2002 White Lightning for $4500 over msrp. If you need service from them ask for Justin Davis.

You don't really think that all used cars at a new car lot are all trade-ins do you? A lot of used car lots buy their Ford cars from the Ford Certified lanes at the auction because they have a guarantee and warranty. Small used car lots can get screwed over as easy as you or I.

Have fun with the Lightning. As far as the V-10 is concerned MM&FF did a blower install on one.....I didn't think the outcome was that impressive. Read it. -Mat-

Really? You mean all them cars aren't trade ins? Golly, and you know all trade-ins to large new car dealers are gems........

Ford Certified Lanes.......Now there's an oxymoron for you. All that means are the fluid levels are topped off.

And your right, we can all get screwed buying used vehicles, that's why I don't.......

No flame but, HOW?
I race my truck quite often at the track and you would never know it when I go to sell it.(not that I would do that, but I could) unless you knew me or the truck from the internet, but a complete stranger with no history of the truck wouldn't.
All the mods are bolt-ons and I run slicks. So i can go back to stock appearance and clean the truck up and you would never know I ran it.
My truck is usually clean(I do a lot of car shows).I do take the wheels off often to clean the rubber out so there is no build up from the burnout and all my stock parts are sitting in my basement looking new.
Yes there are tell tale signs but they are very easy to hide.

Vinnie,

I wasnt really talking about running it at the track of course these trucks are made for that type of stuff. For instance I drove a used camaro once and I knew it had been rodded it would'nt shift worth a damn and when it did it about threw you through the windsheild. Usely if im buying a used car I borrow it for the weekend and take it to my cousins shop C & D Auto in Branson missouri he looks them over hes pretty good with knowing whats wrong with them. Anyway when I said I could tell that I look for the noticed things. I also get a run down on the previous owners and the guy that owns this one im driving lives in town I paid him a visit today. Hes 45 years old and likes collecting perforamnce cars/trucks told me the only reason he traded it was to get a 03 Cobra. hes got 1999 L sitting in the garage covered up told me most of the time he wont drive them much but he used this one as his everyday car and only put 1900 miles on it.

So, now you have a garage check the vehicle out, and you do a background on the previous owner......Using Vinnie's example from above, how would the mechanic know the vehicle had been track raced, versus daily wear and tear? And of course, if you bought one of my previously owned (and beaten daily)) I would welcome your intrusion into my life, at which time I would tell you how I never raced it, I only used it to drive my mom to the rest home on Sundays.

For all that effort, why not just buy a new "L" and be done with it.
