Clobbered my best time
Clobbered my best time
With fall here, seems like everyone is getting new best times. Well, my turn was last night at HRP.
Crushed by old best time by more than 0.60 tenths. Of course, that was a few mods ago. Here it is:
60' = 1.703
330' = 5.028
1/8 = 7.795 @ 88.65
1000' = 10.210
1/4 = 12.258 @ 109.78
EGT's = 1320 (good)
Air temp = 68 deg. with high humidity.
With cooler air and lower humidity, I think I can even get lower. Can't wait to find out.

Yeah, 1000' was 10.210, not 12.210 - now edited above. Y'all have sharp eyes.
mecca, mods are:
filter with cold air induction, 4# lower, superchip, LT's with silver bullet, 2400 stall, single blade TB, Hoosier slicks, Line Valve mod, Dual 14" Electric fans, Cobra R water Pump, Fuel pump upgrade - dual 255's lph, Hand Ported upper intake, Ford Racing Oil Breather Cap, IT20 Denso Iridiums, some weight reduction (roll pan, no spare, no tailgate)

I noticed that you wrote your EGT number on there as being 1320...indeed rich and very safe glad to see that someone is tuning their trucks the right way and not at a dyno. Where did you mount the EGT probe and what EGT Meter are you using? I was also wondering if you had an idea of the leanest cylinder.
We have a COMPUTECH EGT METER that we use in our 96 Cobra and in our 86 Buick T-Type...we'd like use the EGT on our 00 Lightning as well.
See my webpage at W*A*R Performance for mods and times.
Thanks!

MissAmerica,
I am using the Autometer Phantom dual channel EGT guage. One probe is on #5 cylinder, the other on #3 cylinder. The probes are about 1" from the header flange. This guage has memory recall, which is very nice because you can down load the peak for each channel when you get back to the pits instead of staring at it during the run.
Using LT headers, I have found that I get almost identical readings from each probe, plus or minus a little bit. Before the LT's I had it on the stock exhaust manifold. The #5 cylinder gave good readings since it had a reasonable runner length, but the #3 always read high. There was just too much mixing on the #3 due to the very short runner length which gave high readings.
Most people say that #5 is the leanest, and this works well for the stock exhaust manifold since the #5 (and #1) runner lengths are the longest. However, which cylinder is leanest could vary from truck to truck. Seems like there is no consistent pattern to the fried plugs from the posts here.
