Unhappy Insurance, Insurance, Insurance!!!

Well, I certainly have learned a lot more about
this topic the last few days! I have my policy
with Liberty Mutual, and the claims rep and the
adjuster just finished with the work on the truck.
They were the most accomodating people I have
talked to in a long while. Very nice outcome after
all my tribulations this week.

They think it is repairable, so now I need to bring her
home to Lexington. My policy pays for $75.00 of
towing after the accident to move the vehicle to the
repair facility. The quote to bring it to Lexington is
about $500.00 The initial adjuster value for
repairs is about $8,000 with the condition that
if when they get into it they find more stuff, a
supplemental claim will be paid.

Also, there is a feature for most insurance policies
called "Supplement" or "Gap" insurance to cover
addon accessories and modifications. The plus side is
that it is relatively inexpensive, the down side is that
my agent never mentioned it.

So on top of the measly $15.00 per day car rental
allowance, I now face the $500.00 deductible plus
the $500.00 tow home plus some additional fees
for storage by the day.

So check your policy, guys, and make sure if you
ever do have an accident that you are covered.

The down side of claiming "performance" parts is
that they might raise your risk rating, so that has
to be balanced into the equation. Short of driving
252 miles and wrenching for a few hours, it seems
that them knowing what the added value to the
vehicle gains in returns is relatively a bargain.

So "Christine" is now released to me to bring her
back. Gonna be a busy few days around here.

Cliff

Cliff,

Thanks for the insight. I'll be checking into my policy info for sure.

Glad you're ok and the truck is repairable.

Maybe when you get it ready to rock, you can bring it up to Indy for some Road Course fun at IRP.

I'll be waiting.. hehe

Respectfully,

Bob

After what you just went through, that's a poor choice of phrases.

Thanks for the tips, and remember...how many times have you seen in a car/truck magazine where the impetus for a beautiful vehicle was a wreck? Now's your chance...the hell with the money, make us all proud!!!!

I really wanted to get up there when the SVTOA ran,
but I had a family commitment that weekend. I WILL
make it this year. Do they start about March like the
SOLO II stuff?

Cliff, If you are going to get a $500 bill for the towing, I think I'd look into renting a trailer and a truck to tow it with. It would save you at least $250 on the deal. If you already have something stout enough to tow about 8000 lbs, you could save some more $$$.
