? for those using traction bars

With so many choices for traction bars, I was looking for some user input. How many of you actually seen you 60ft times decrease? What where your 60ft times before and after the install? How difficult was the install? Thanks in advance

Thumbs up T-Bars

Hey Ripper, I have JDM's Rancho style bars on my '00 L. They do a great job, no adjustment needed. They have helped me get as low as 1.63 60 ft. with good track conditions. Your actual gain will vary according to other "factors", ( stock or aftermarket converter, slicks). With all that considered, the main reason for installing a good set of T-Bars is to prevent "axle wrap" during a hard launch. Axle wrap will change your pinion angle to the point of breaking your driveshaft, especially when using sticky tires. I like the peace of mind factor that my JDM T-Bars give me, plus I think they look cool. They're are kind of pricey, but they're worth it, hope this helped, later, John H.

I prefer the "slapper" type because they only come into
play when your REALLY getting on it. They don't increase
the stiffness of the suspension under normal conditions.

And TrukTracs are pretty inexpensive from the major
vendors. (PSP is where I got mine!)

Thanks John.In my particular case I do have a stock T/C and I am using E/T streets with an additional #4 of boost. My best 60ft so far is a weak 1.89. I'm sure I can better that will more practice, I just don't want to toss my D/S in the process.

Lakewoods here! They work great, and they are the cheapest. Just don't admit to anyone that you got them, or they all think you're a cheap-*** and a hack.

good luck,
joe

I too have a quick question reguarding traction bars. I just ordered truk-tracs from PSP and am still awaiting their arrival, however, I am now concerned about clearance. I am lowered 2" front and back and the SVT writer at my local dealership told me I would be scraping them on everything, and that any traction device on an L is a waste of money. Now I know the latter is false, since I'm not in the market for a new driveshaft. But will clearance be an issue?

Thanks

NJ, clearance will not be an issue. There is a reason service writers aren't techs . With a lowered truck, the body and frame is lower, but the spring remains in the same spot, so lowered trucks are not a problem. Truck Traks have been run on as low as 3/4 drops. The bars sit in the same location as if the truck was stock.

Sal,

Thanks for the re-assurance, based on alot of the things he said I didn't think he really knew what he was talking about. But because of this great invention called the internet, I figured I would look into it. I didn't think you would sell me the bars if they wouldnt work for my application.

Thanks again

Lowered trucks do have problems with any "body attached"
traction assist devices clearing the exhaust. Yet another
reason for the TrukTracs. Sal's right, (of course!) and I just
put the Tracs back on "christine" last weekend. They fit
fine, and now I just need some smaller rubber baby buggy
bumpers to allow the Roush flatter springs to sit above
instead of just barely touching the Tracs.

jest me $0.02 worth ...

Jay Lincoln has an adaptor that he says makes the fit
perfect. Or you can shim betweent the truk tracs and
the leaf spring to move it down. Also, Jay has smaller
bumpers for the ends. Mine is just barely touching
now, so I only need to gain a inch or two. I will
prolly get the bumpers from Jay, since he rulz with
this item.

Hehe, the only place you'll scrape the bars is on the speed bump in Haldeman's parking lot!

Seriously, I don't see any major issues - look at how ridiculously low some of the imports in our area are, with no problem. I'm sure the bars will give you more than the 3-4" of ground clearance they have... Also, don't the bars move with your suspension anyway? You'll be fine.

I have the adapters for the Roush springs and there is 1" of clearence, it that enough?

What is the effect of more, especially when running slicks at the track?
