Anyone else sick of these "my engine just blew" threads???

Ok, before anyone has a cow, let me explain myself.

First off, I realize I have not posted under my login in a while. I have used my husbands a few times...... but he posts here more than I do. Probably because I just get so frustrated at some of the posts, and I am taking care of the baby.

Now, as to my subject matter. This post is in no way a slam to anyone who has had legitimate problems........ or anyone who has told the whole story of their problem, from the beginning of their posts. This is for everyone else.

Maybe it is just me, but I have had it up to my earlobes with these "I am just so innocent, but I was just driving to grandmas house on Sunday and the engine just blew up for no reason" posts. They all seem to follow a frighteningly similar pattern.

Owner of car, or "friend" of owner comes in and posts that the engine in his "his friends" L just blew up. He was just driving down the street at ____ (insert your favorite speed up to and including 140mph) speed....... minding his own business........ when for no reason what-so-ever, it just blew. Of course the truck was totally stock, or "only" had a couple of innocent mods. He just cannot understand why the dealership is giving him grief about replacing the engine under warranty. Thus, Ford sucks....... Lightnings suck........ how dare Ford charge $30K+ for something that can't handle 600rwhp and 10 trips down the track every week....... so-on....... so-on....... woe is me.

Said owner then gets the bandwagon going. Oh you poor thing, Ford sucks........ dealerships suck........ How dare Ford build a truck that just blows up when you are innocently driving down the street.

Then come in the skeptics. What speed were you going again??? On or off the throttle???? RPM????? What were the exact symptoms????? You say you have no mods but you are upset that the truck won't hold up to heavy mods???? Was it making any noise???? Had you been having problems with the truck previously????? So-on, and so-on.......

Said owner (friend of owner) then starts to get defensive. Over the course of 5-6 pages of inane posts, the truth slowly starts to leak out. "Well, it "had" mods." What mods did it have??? This takes 1-2 pages to pry out of the person. "Well, it did have a little predet...... but I didn't think it was any big deal (or insert your favorite, it was doing _______ and I kept beating on it problem)" Or, "Well, it shouldn't have been a problem to go from a 2lb pulley to a 6lb pulley with the same old chip if Ford had only built it right." Or........ or......... I could just go on and on.

Towards the end of the thread, all of the backers have pretty much decided to hide out, as they realize that their hero isn't really one. The naysayers have decided that the person shouldn't be allowed to drive a high performance vehicle, because they take no responsibility for their actions. Then their are the saps, like myself, who actually read the stupidity in the first place (mainly because they wanted to confirm their suspicions).

To sum up my rant, let me just say that I am sick of it. We have an auto repair and towing business, and I wrench on cars also. So, I can see things from "the other side." To constantly blame others for your actions is the reason this country is in the sucky shape that it is. It is never your fault because you modded your vehicle, it is the manufacturers. It is never your fault because you don't maintain your vehicle, it is the manufacturer (or the shop that works on it...... nevermind that you never ok suggested maintenance work). It is never your fault, because you shouldn't have to do anything to your $30+ vehicle.......... it should always be perfect. It is never your fault because, even when the vehicle has a obvious problem and you didn't take it in or stop driving it...... this just shouldn't happen with a $30K+ vehicle. Of course it also is not your fault because even though you bought your vehicle used, and it didn't have any mods on it at the time, there was no way that you could have guessed that the previous owner had beat the living **** out of it.

Anyway, I am done. Again, this was not meant for any responsible owners who maintain their vehicles, and who understand that if you play you pay. This is just for those who feel that a manufacturer somehow OWES them something, and makes my next vehicle be more expensive in the process.

(putting on the flame suit as we speak)

I know.

The sad fact is that I now read them to see if the "pattern" is the same.

I know....... I'm sick.

HA HA HA...I agree. Any time you modify something you have to accept the fact that something may go wrong and deal with it when it does. You know your vehicle and if something doesn't seem right about it, try to find out what it is before what ever it is breaks. I got sucked into reading those posts too. I can't get any work done today. Refresh, Refresh. I don't look at the accident scenes though because there is always somebody in front of me jamming the brakes on to look...

Ah come on. Tell us how you really feel. :ducks head:

I might as well jump on the band wagon while were on a roll here:

I think all these guys and gals claiming their getting 11-13 mpg w/light mods are simply guessing at it, don't know how to figure it, and/or simply drive like an ape all the time.

I give them all Hell until the Webmaster bribes me with uping my post count and giving me Carte Blanche in the General Discussion Forum. I've been making out like a Bandit. I mean, look at my post count! I know I don't really have more than 700-800 posts!
(A good post gets that counter spinning like a pin-ball machine)

Realizing the effect these threads have on the Board I think I have been selling myself cheap.
Next time, I'm going to hold out for all of the above PLUS I want the 'Dirty Word' filter removed from my USERID.

I want to say **** *** and **** and ** ** **** all I want to.

I'm just happy I got to post in a big thread before it got closed

Sometimes I read them for humor factor, other times those threads get on my nerves, but it's easy to just ignore them.

I can't stop though. I think my eyes are starting to bleed

I am always real specific with the tuner as to what is done, the octane on both programs and driving habits. Or maybe I am just lucky

No, you are smart.

Alot of these trucks are being bought by people who don't even know the slightest thing about vehicles...... then they buy mods from their buddy, because gosh, my buddy wouldn't steer me wrong. They drive it like a bat out of hell 24/7, run 91 octane on a race program, don't know what that "sound" is under heavy throttle, never check fluids between changes (if they do that..... and if they do it is at JiffyLube), then have a cow when it breaks.

This makes me think back to when I used to show my heavily modded '91 Mustang GT. I had done all of the mods myself, except the stereo (about $5000 in stereo). These teenagers/young 20 somethings could tell me the ohms that my speakers were working at (I didn't have a clue), but I could tell them that I had a "hemi" 4-cyl under the hood........ and they would believe me because I had taken off my 5.0 emblems (yes the hood was always open).

This scared me. (these are probably some of the people who own L's right now).
