I would think it affect performance a little, but I have no numbers. I was also thinking on how to clean the TB an intake, because I'm getting ready to add a few mods. Could you just use carb cleaner?

i heard of alot of people using break cleaner to clean their i/c, but just make sure you take it off the motor first

What about if you want to keep it on? Is there anything you can use to spray in there?

I am also very interested in this topic.
DO NOT use carb cleaner on your TB or intake. From what i understand it will eat away at the coatings on the TB, etc.

I went down to autozone and picked up a bottle of "STP throttle body & intake cleaner".
It appears the main ingredients are xylene and methyl alcohol.
I doubt those would cause any harm, at least i know xylene is a good octane booster

Im not sure if someone would be able to spray some down the intake to clean the intercooler

What is all involved in taking out the intercooler?, looks like it would be a real B%$*H.

You can bet that the "oil injection system" that ford built into are motors is lowering the octane rating of are fuel...which can lead to detonation, which can restrict your hp or make a whole in your block....then it would be unrestricted hp... for a second or two anyway

T/B cleaner would be the correct stuff to use. Regular carb cleaner does eat away the coatings.

Jay Lincoln answered a similar question regarding this months ago, and I'll summarize it here:

Once oil gets into the intercooler....

(I'll leave the rest to your imagination)

I used a spare piece of hose(3-4 feet) and attached it to the PCV tube(upper one) and put the end of the hose in a can of Sea Foam solvent/cleaner(get it at NAPA). I had my wife start the eng. It will be hard to start but it will. I let the eng. vacuum pull the solvent into the intake adaptor. It should(?) follow the path the unwanted oil took and clean it off of the i/c, etc. as the eng. burns it in the combustion chamber. Best done outside as you will get a LOT of white smoke out the exhaust. Just feed enough for the eng to still run and then as you get near the bottom of the can, let it take enough in to stall the eng. Let it sit for 5 minutes and soak but NO longer. Hook the PCV tube back up and restart the eng. Keep it running until the smoke quits. I can't say for sure(guarantee) that the i/c is clean after this but it should do the job without taking the s/c off...........

NOTE: I only do this just before changing the oil as the solvent will have gotten into the crankcase(oil) and will dilute your oil's viscosity.

If carb and choke cleaner will remove coatings I must be in a world of hurt. That's all I have ever use.

The intake is only coated on the outside, and the Accufab T/B is polished aluminum. So far no ill effects.

In fact, I used it to clean up after I massaged my Accufab, again.
